SAO PAULO, Nov. 1 (China News Service) -- The 20-day Sixth Sao Paulo Chinese Film Festival opened online in Brazil on the evening of November 1, local time. The film festival held its first online screening due to the new crown epidemic, and the opening film "Desperate Note" screened that night was well received by many Chinese and Pakistani audiences.
Jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at the State University of São Paulo and the Department of Culture of the State of São Paulo, the film exhibition will focus on 10 chinese contemporary films online for free with the theme of "Long Time No See". In addition to "Lonely Note", there are also "Balloons", "I Want Us Together", "Junior Class", "Suburban Birds", "Four Springs", "The Mystery of Arrival", "Desperate", "Calm Waves" and "Yuan Longping", etc., each movie will be screened online for 7 days.
During the screening, the director will interact with the audience online in the form of a video and answer questions. On November 20, the day of the festival' closing, filmmakers from China and Brazil will hold an online dialogue event to talk about documentary creation.
Chen Peijie, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in São Paulo, said in her speech at the opening ceremony of the film festival that the epidemic cannot stop China-Pakistan exchanges and cooperation, and cultural exchanges and mutual learning have deepened mutual understanding and friendship among the people on both sides, and have also become an important pillar for deepening China-Pakistan friendship, increasing the determination and confidence of China and Pakistan to continue to unite and cooperate and create a better life. It is expected that Brazilian friends will once again approach and perceive the real and vivid China through the perspective of film artists, as well as the kindness and friendship of Chinese culture and vitality, Chinese people.
Luo Jin, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at São Paulo State University, told reporters that the São Paulo Chinese Film Festival was founded in 2015, and due to the impact of the new crown epidemic, the film festival was suspended last year. This year's China Film Festival overcame many difficulties and with the support and assistance of the Chinese Consulate General in São Paulo, was able to cooperate with the Department of Culture of the State of São Paulo to achieve online film exhibition, which is also the first time we have held an online film festival.
