Wang Xia: China's auto market has not peaked There will be new opportunities for new energy vehicles

At the 2020 (second) Haikou International New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicle Exhibition, Shen Danyang, vice governor of the People's Government of Hainan Province (front row, third from right), Wang Ruixiang, president of China Machinery Industry Federation (front row, first from right), and Wang Xia, president of the Automotive Industry Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (front row, second from right), are learning about the latest development of new energy vehicles.

For domestic and foreign auto practitioners, I am afraid it is difficult to find a "more difficult" year than 2019.

Forecasts show that global car sales in 2019 hit their biggest drop since the 2009 financial crisis. China's auto market has not been able to stand alone in this "cold winter of the auto market" that has swept the world, not only new car sales have fallen into negative growth, but even the new energy vehicles that have developed rapidly in previous years have not been able to continue positive growth.

There is no doubt that whether it is technological innovation or market trends, or industrial policies, the entire automobile industry has entered a period of deep adjustment. So, where will China's auto market go in 2020? Can the new energy vehicle market regain its glory?

The purchase of a car just needs to not see the top

"Fundamentally, I think the just demand of China's auto market is not yet saturated, and the ceiling is far from there. There is still great potential for the development of China's auto market in the future. Recently, at the 2020 (second) Haikou International New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicle Exhibition, Wang Xia, president of the Automotive Industry Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, gave his judgment straight to the point, playing a "strong needle" for the auto market in the new year.

In the auto markets of various countries, it is a consensus to "look at the number of cars owned by 1,000 people in the long run". Specifically, economic development and population growth will affect the release of car purchases, which in turn will have an impact on the entire automobile market.

Statistics show that the number of cars per 1,000 people in the United States is more than 4 times that of China, the European Union and Japan are more than 3 times that of China, and South Korea is more than twice that of China. Some analysts believe that combined with the healthy development of the economy and society and the steady increase in the urbanization rate, the number of thousands of cars in China is far from saturated.

"Although it is not possible to make a simple analogy between the Chinese car market and the developed country car market, in any case, there is still a lot of room for growth in the total number of Chinese cars." Wang Xia believes that in the future, China's auto market will not show explosive growth as in the past decade, but will become "a continuous, tortuous process of climbing.". At the same time, the trend of consumption upgrading in the automobile market will continue to strengthen, becoming the "second engine" of the growth of the automobile market.

"Cars are commodities, and the auto industry is a vanguard of industrial development. Therefore, a healthy and stable economy will drive the automotive market to continue to grow. Liu Zhichao, an analyst in the automotive industry, explained that the steady development of the economy will continue to increase the purchasing power of consumers, which will also bring new opportunities to the automobile market.

He said that on the one hand, the consumption upgrade of car buyers will drive the sales of high-end products, so most of the luxury car brands in 2019 have performed eye-catching. "This also allows auto companies, especially independent brand car companies, to smell the opportunity of 'brand up'." It has brought vitality to the progress of China's automobile industry. ”

On the other hand, with policy adjustments and the sinking of corporate channels, the consumption potential of non-first- and second-tier cities has been further activated. The "2019 China Automobile Consumption Trend Report" released by the China Automobile Dealers Association shows that middle-class consumers in non-first- and second-tier cities are rising rapidly and have become the main contributor to new consumption. And their potential in the field of automobile consumption will also be fully released. Liu Zhichao judged that "seizing the third- and fourth-tier cities and even the township market will become the focus of the automotive enterprises in the future." ”

New energy, intelligent network "two legs to walk"

"From the supply side, continuous technological change has accumulated strong potential energy on the product side, and continuous supporting investment has accumulated considerable resources at the use end." These will continue to translate into a strong appeal to consumers. Wang Xia said that years of technology investment and the guidance of industrial policies have "paved the way for transformation" for China's automobile industry to a new stage.

In Wang Xia's view, the degree of development of new energy vehicles and intelligent networked vehicles will determine the height of this round of evolution of China's automobile industry.

"We must see that with the participation of many new forces in competition, the increase of investment in the research and development of electric vehicles by traditional Chinese car companies, and the acceleration of the pace of research and development of electric vehicles by multinational car companies, new energy vehicles are constantly making breakthroughs in both basic research and product applications." Wang Xia told reporters bluntly that once the performance and cost of new energy vehicles can be fully benchmarked against fuel vehicles, the pressure of subsidy decline will be resolved by the results of technological change. At that time, private consumption will release huge market potential and push new energy vehicles into a real "golden age".

In addition to the new energy automobile industry, intelligent networked vehicles are also an important trend in the development of the current automotive industry. "The significance of the development of intelligent and connected vehicles is not only in the automobile industry itself, but also in the reshaping of the whole format and value chain system of the automobile and related industries, which opens the value boundary for the traditional automobile industry with manufacturing as the biggest feature." Wang Ruixiang, president of the China Machinery Industry Federation, said that after the guidance of national policies and the deep cultivation of automobile enterprises in recent years, new energy and intelligent networked vehicles are expected to "take over" smart phones and become "the main carrier of new technology applications, the main force of consumption upgrading, and the main battlefield of industrial upgrading".

In order to further promote the development of China's automotive industry in the field of new energy and intelligent networking, the 2020 (second) Haikou International New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicle Exhibition came into being.

As the first large-scale auto show in the automotive industry at the beginning of 2020, this year's Haikou Auto Show has the theme of "Cars Make the World Better", with a total exhibition area of about 50,000 square meters. The exhibitors basically cover all new energy and intelligent networked automobile manufacturers at home and abroad, and a total of nearly 260 new energy and intelligent networked vehicles are exhibited.

"Since its inception, cars have been bringing us all kinds of imaginations, and they have really caused a lot of trouble. But Autobots can always turn these imaginations into surprises, and dissolve the troubles into motivation. Wang Xia said frankly that the "adjustment period" of China's auto market is far from over, "driven by new energy vehicles and intelligent networked vehicles, the future Of China's auto market will still be in an upward channel for a long time." ”
