Speaking of Tan Pingshan, today's young people may not know much, but in modern history, this is a pivotal figure, one of the main founders of the Communist Party and one of the main founders of the Kuomintang.

He was one of the founders of the Communist Party, but was expelled from the party for criticizing Zhang Guotao

Tan Pingshan was born in 1886, always the same age as Zhu Lao, joined the revolution very early, became an important leader of the "May Fourth" movement, met Li Dazhao in Beijing, and with the help of Li Dazhao, initiated the establishment of the Guangdong Communist Group, and once together with Chen Duxiu in Shanghai and Li Dazhao in Beijing, he was called "Southern Tan and Northern Li Middle Chen".

Some people may ask: Tan Pingshan's status is so high, why did he not attend a major meeting of our party?

In fact, at that time, the organization was ready for Tan Pingshan to attend, but he was running around for the organization's funds, and he could not get away from it, so he appointed his plenipotentiary Chen Gongbo to participate.

Moreover, the other two founders at that time, Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao, were also too busy to attend a major meeting.

Tan Pingshan was not only one of the founders of the Communist Party, but also one of the initiators of the Nanchang Uprising, and served as the titular supreme leader of the uprising, of course, the supreme leader responsible for the uprising was Zhou Enlai.

Before the uprising, Zhang Guotao became afraid of the enemy and advocated that the uprising be carefully considered, and it was Tan Pingshan who argued on the basis of reason, slapped the table with Zhang Guotao, and vigorously advocated the uprising, and the Nanchang uprising was able to proceed smoothly.

There is another detail that needs to be explained here, before the Nanchang Uprising, the 20th Army that wanted to unite He Long was Tan Pingshan.

Of course, President He had long been unaccustomed to Chiang Kai-shek's reactionary face, so when Tan Pingshan found him, President He was very happy and agreed to participate in the Nanchang Uprising.

Later, after the Nanchang uprising troops withdrew, it was Tan Pingshan who personally introduced Mr. He to the party and personally presided over the party joining ceremony.

So, how did Tan Pingshan become the main founder of the Kuomintang?

Speaking of which, Tan Pingshan had already joined the League before joining the Communist Party and became an important assistant of Sun Yat-sen, and later Sun Yat-sen reorganized the Kuomintang, and the specific reorganization matters were handled by Tan Pingshan.

When the Kuomintang was at a congress, the staff asked Sun Yat-sen to participate, and Sun Yat-sen said a word: "You should make a list first, but Tan Pingshan must participate." It can be seen that Sun Yat-sen weighed heavily on him.

However, the fate of such a pivotal figure was very tortuous, and he was even expelled from the party by both parties.

After the defeat of the Nanchang Uprising, Tan Pingshan was forced to go to Hong Kong, and in the same year, the central government held an extraordinary meeting in Shanghai, and under the guidance of left adventurism, Tan Pingshan was wrongly criticized and expelled from the party. Later, when Tan Pingshan overcame all kinds of difficulties and dangers and found the organization, he realized that he had been expelled.

When Zhou Enlai made a report in Yan'an in 1944, he specifically explained Tan Pingshan's expulsion, believing that at that time, it was mainly Zhang Guotao who remembered that Tan Pingshan had slapped the table with him during the Nanchang uprising, and Tan Pingshan had said to a division commander at that time that if Zhang Guotao opposed the Nanchang uprising again, I would kill his head, so Zhang Guotao took revenge and just found this opportunity to expel him from the party, which now seems very inappropriate.

After Tan Pingshan was expelled, he could no longer work for the party, so he continued to work in the Kuomintang, but he did not look up to Chiang Kai-shek's set and contradicted Chiang Kai-shek at every turn, which made Chiang Kai-shek very angry, so he found an excuse to expel him from the Kuomintang.

Later, after Tan Pingshan was rehabilitated, he asked to return to work within the party, but Chairman Mao said that it is better not to return to your current status, which is conducive to doing better united front work, and the party recognizes your identity and can act as a party member on a small scale.

Tan Pingshan did not mind at all, responded with great enthusiasm, and did a lot of positive work outside the party.

At the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Tan Pingshan, as an important representative, climbed the Tiananmen Tower with Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou and others.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Tan Pingshan served as vice chairman of the Kuomintang Revolutionary Committee for a long time, and died of illness in 1956 at the age of 70.
