"Forty is not confused" comes from the Analects of Government, and the whole sentence is: I have five out of ten and am determined to learn, thirty and standing, forty and not confused, fifty and know the Mandate of Heaven, sixty and obedient, seventy and do not exceed the rules.

The literal meaning of "forty not confused" is that when a person lives to the age of 40, he lives a more transparent life, and he no longer feels confused about everything.
