People's Daily published an article: Telling the United States

The People's Daily today published a bell article telling the US side that the Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affair and brooks no foreign interference. On the Taiwan issue, we must scrupulously abide by our commitments and act prudently.

Recently, some US politicians have successively hyped up the so-called "Taiwan's participation in the United Nations system" and other international organizations, and have also disregarded the facts and slandered China as a threat to regional peace and stability. The US dialect and behavior seriously violate the one-China principle and the stipulations of the three Sino-US joint communiques, violate the commitments it has made, and violate the basic norms governing international relations. We must sternly warn the US side that the Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affair and brooks no foreign interference. No one should underestimate the strong determination, firm will and strong ability of the Chinese people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On the one hand, some US politicians claim to adhere to the one-China policy, and on the other hand, they steal concepts and confuse the public opinion, trying to package the unreasonable challenge to the one-China principle as a so-called "value" issue and a "pragmatic issue." Although the US side has taken pains in the design of its discourse, it is impossible to change and cover up the essence of the problem and the real motives of the US side.

For a long time, the DPP authorities in Taiwan have clamored for "Taiwan representation" and "Taiwan's international space" and other fallacies, which are essentially engaged in "Taiwan independence." By saying something for Taiwan on this issue, the US side is sending a serious wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" forces. The Participation of the Taiwan Region in the activities of international organizations must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle. General Assembly resolution 2758 has completely resolved the issue of China's representation in the United Nations politically, legally and procedurally. Any matter involving Taiwan by the United Nations system, the specialized agencies and the United Nations Secretariat should be guided by the one-China principle and General Assembly resolution 2758. Including the United States, 180 countries in the world have established diplomatic relations with China on the basis of adhering to the one-China principle. The one-China principle is the universal consensus of the international community and the universally recognized basic norm governing international relations, and does not allow the United States to unilaterally challenge and distort it. Fifty years ago, the United States' attempt to create "one China, one Taiwan" or "two Chinas" at the United Nations was thwarted. Today, 50 years later, the US side has re-hyped the so-called "Taiwan's participation in the UNITED Nations system" issue in a vain attempt to turn back the wheel of history, standing against the overwhelming majority of countries in the world and doomed to fail again.

The Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, involves China's core interests, and is the most important and sensitive issue in Sino-US relations. The one-China principle is the political foundation of Sino-US relations. The US side is clear about China's firm position on the Taiwan issue and has repeatedly made commitments on this issue. In the three Sino-US joint communiques, the United States explicitly recognized that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government of China; to this extent, the American people will maintain cultural, commercial, and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan. The U.S. Government has repeatedly reiterated its position that "it does not support Taiwan's membership in any international organization that must be a sovereign state." Recently, US officials have also made it clear that the US side has no intention of changing the one-China policy and the status quo in the Taiwan Strait. However, in reality, the US side has constantly created incidents on the Taiwan issue, from strengthening official exchanges and military collusion between the United States and Taiwan to instigating individual countries to make trouble on the Taiwan issue, to frequently hyping up the so-called "Taiwan's participation in the United Nations system." The various practices of the US side have clearly violated its own commitments. As for the erroneous words and deeds of the US side, the Chinese side has made a resolute and necessary response.

At present, the US side's China policy has caused serious difficulties in Sino-US relations. To push the relations between the two countries back on track, the US side needs to make the right choice and return to a rational and pragmatic China policy. The Taiwan issue is the most important issue in Sino-US relations. If the US side continues to play the "Taiwan card" and goes all the way to the black, it will not only create obstacles to the current relaxation of Sino-US relations, but will also create a huge risk of subversion to Sino-US relations, which will seriously damage peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and will also seriously damage the INTERESTs of the US side itself.

The tide of the world is mighty, and if it goes along with it, it will prosper, and if it goes against it, it will die. The realization of China's complete reunification is the general trend of historical evolution and the common will of all the sons and daughters of China. We resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" separatism and external interference, and our determination to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity is unswerving. We are warning the US side to abide by its commitments on the Taiwan issue, to act prudently, to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, to abide by GENERAL ASSEMBLY resolution 2758, to stop making irresponsible and erroneous remarks, to stop assisting Taiwan in expanding the so-called "international space," not to send the wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" forces, and to safeguard the political foundation of Sino-US relations with practical actions.
