To build Baotou Steel into a modern steel joint venture, it will not be easy. In 1953, the central government formulated the "First Five-Year Plan", which clearly put forward Baotou Steel as one of the three major steel enterprises in China, and became a major project in the industrial construction layout of the Party Central Committee in the border minority areas during the first five-year plan.
In 1958, Baotou Steel was in a period of large-scale construction, but the construction of the No. 1 blast furnace encountered the problem of insufficient supply of equipment and construction materials.
The central government proposed to "find a way to solve difficulties for Baotou Steel", so the whole country, all regions, enterprises, departments actively took action, set off a national support for Baotou Steel boom. On average, more than 10 wagons of equipment and materials are transported from all over the country to Baogang every day, and eventually more than 80,000 entrepreneurs take root in the frontier.
At that time, the baotou steel construction site was still a desert beach, with a harsh environment and a lack of materials. However, under the inspiration of the slogan of "Baotou Steel for the Whole Country, the Whole Country for Baotou Steel", management cadres drawn from the Party and government organs such as the Central Committee and the North China Bureau, backbone technical cadres of Angang Steel, intellectuals and veterans of colleges and universities, resolutely gave up comfortable living conditions and passionately threw themselves into the construction of Baotou Steel.
Under the boom of national support, the construction of Baotou Steel is proceeding at an extraordinary speed. At 5:55 a.m. on September 26, 1959, the first furnace of molten iron flowed out of the No. 1 blast furnace of Baotou Steel, a year earlier than originally planned.
The completion and operation of Baotou Steel has effectively supported the country's economic construction and national defense construction, and Baotou Steel is not only the Baotou Steel of Baotou Steel, but also the Baotou Steel of the people of the whole country.
