Direct News: Mr. Liu, we saw that Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with US Secretary of State Blinken in Rome and focused on the Taiwan issue. How do you interpret this?
Special Commentator Liu Heping: In fact, what needs to be focused on solving the G20 meeting is the issue of global warming, and as the representative of the developed countries, the United States and China, the representative of developing countries, have placed high hopes on solving the problem of global warming. Logically, in this case, Wang Yi and US Secretary of State Blinken met at the G20 venue, and the meeting time was only about 50 minutes, and both sides should get to the point and focus their time and energy on how to deal with global warming. However, in the end, the focus of the talks fell on the Taiwan issue. Wang Yi even more bluntly pointed out that China and the United States "benefit both sides by combining, and hurting both by fighting," and the Taiwan issue is the most sensitive issue between China and the United States.
I think that two very important signals have been revealed behind this: The first is that in recent times, some actions of the United States on the Taiwan issue, including the voluntary disclosure to the outside world that a small group of US special forces members have been stationed in Taiwan and are helping Taiwan train its army, and the Taiwan support forces in the United States are trying to achieve the so-called goal of "returning Taiwan to the United Nations" by distorting or even denying UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. There is also the Biden administration that it is seriously considering renaming Taiwan's representative office in the United States, the "Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States," to "Taiwan Representative Office.", all of which have made the Chinese side feel intolerable, so that it has to temporarily put aside other things and remind and beat US Secretary of State Blinken in person.
The second political signal is that when US Deputy Secretary of State Sherman recently visited Tianjin to get China to make more commitments and take more action in response to global warming, Wang Yi once said that the United States respects China's core national interests and is a prerequisite for Sino-US cooperation on global and regional hotspot issues. When Wang Yi met with Blinken this time, he focused the talks on the Taiwan issue rather than the global climate issue, which means that after the verbal reminder, the Chinese side is telling the US side with practical actions that if China wants to cooperate with the United States on global and regional hotspot issues, please respect China's core national interests, and the Taiwan issue is undoubtedly China's most core national interest. This also means that if the global climate is to cool down, the current Sino-US relations, which are full of gunpowder, must first cool down, especially the current situation in the Taiwan Strait must be cooled, and the United States can no longer continue to fannish the fire on the Taiwan issue.
Straight News: The State Committee also told US Secretary of State Blinken that once the US side makes a mistake in handling the Taiwan issue, it will cause subversive and overall damage to Sino-US relations. How do you interpret this?
Special Commentator Liu Heping: From Wang Yi's words, I read not only the meaning of reminder, but also the meaning of a strong stern warning.
I think everyone should know what is the subversive and overall destruction of Sino-US relations, and what factors can lead to subversive and overall damage to Sino-US relations? My view is that only when China and the United States completely overturn the table, or in the words of the Biden administration, only when China and the United States move from the current state of vicious competition and confrontation to a complete and all-out conflict, will there be subversive and overall damage to Sino-US relations. Wang Yi has directly pointed out that once the US side makes a mistake in handling the Taiwan issue, it will cause subversive and overall damage to Sino-US relations. The subtext behind this is obviously that if the United States continues to send troops to Taiwan, continues to manipulate the so-called return of Taiwan to the United Nations, and manipulates the issue of renaming the "Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States," it is very likely that the situation in the Taiwan Strait will be shaken, or even lead to the full-scale outbreak of war in the Taiwan Strait. Because if the United States still tries to create "two Chinas" through various actions to negate the "one China" principle and touches China's "Anti-Secession Law," then China will be forced to make up its mind to solve the problem at the source, that is, to solve the issue of cross-strait reunification by non-peaceful means. Only when the two sides of the strait are reunified and the Taiwan issue ceases to exist will the United States and some Western countries be completely unable to play the Taiwan card. At that time, the so-called issue of Taiwan's return to the United Nations, the renaming of the "Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States," and the issue of the United States secretly sending troops to Taiwan will all cease to exist. Therefore, I believe that this is the clearest and harshest warning that the Chinese side has issued to the US side through formal and public occasions so far. I don't know if the Biden administration and the Tsai Ing-wen administration can understand it.
Moreover, Wang Yi further reminded the US side that once such a worst result occurs, all the responsibility must be borne by the Initiator, the United States. This is because Wang Yi not only denied Blinken's allegation that the Chinese military plane circumventing Taiwan is undermining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, but also clearly pointed out that the root cause of the current Taiwan Strait problem lies precisely in the fact that the United States took the lead in changing the current situation in the Taiwan Strait politically, that is, "there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing China." Because the political status quo of the United States changing the situation in the Taiwan Strait is the cause, the PLA military plane circumnavigating Taiwan is only the result, and there is a cause to have an effect, and it is a cause and then an effect.
Straight News: When Wang Yi met with Blinken, he also asked the US side to pursue a real "one China" policy, not a fake "one China" policy. What do you think about that?
Special Commentator Liu Heping: In fact, over the past few years, the US side has been vowing to the outside world that it pursues a one-China policy, especially the Biden administration has repeatedly emphasized this point recently, and this statement is quite confusing, so that many countries in the world believe it to be true. Well, in my impression, this is the first time I have heard the Chinese side bluntly point out that the "one China" policy played by the United States is false.
So, why is the US "one China" policy false? Because the Chinese side believes that the correct "one China" policy is actually a complete syllogism, that is, "there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing China", and the latter sentence is particularly crucial. The "one China" policy of the United States is actually taken out of context, and it only recognizes the first two sentences at most. The core of such a "one-China" policy is that it does not hold a clear attitude toward who represents China, and even develops to the later stage of secretly crossing Chen Cang. This is the so-called basis for the United States to constantly violate the three Sino-US joint communiques on the establishment of diplomatic relations and taiwan, explicitly or implicitly, sell weapons to Taiwan and send small units of special forces to Taiwan, and even operate Taiwan's return to the United Nations. According to the development of the "one China" policy of the United States, it is very likely that "two Chinas" or even "one China and one Taiwan" will be very likely to occur in the international arena in the future.
Therefore, Wang Yi's speech not only punctured the true face of the US version of the "one China" policy, but also found the real source of chaos in the current situation in the Taiwan Strait. Of course, it is a good thing to discover and find problems, but this does not mean that the problems can be solved immediately, and there is still a long way to go before the US side tries to create the momentum of "two Chinas" and to completely overlap between China's one-China principle and the US "one China" policy.
