Writer's Observation 丨 Zhang Chu: It is necessary to formulate a global universal law to constrain AI technology

Editor's note: Since the 21st century, the global economy, science and technology have developed rapidly, culture and art have interacted closely, the time and space distance between people has suddenly shortened, and people's communication methods, social and cultural forms have all carried the unique characteristics of this era. In this regard, focusing on science, art, psychology, medicine, ethics, environment and other related topics, the New Hainan Client Culture Channel and the Hainan International Communication Center invite well-known writers, poets and scholars in China to jointly launch a series of interviews with "Writer Observation", so please pay attention to it.

Nowadays, AI technology is widely used, such as science, criminal investigation, teaching, medical, communications, transportation, media and other industries, through high-energy algorithms, saving the time cost and production cost in social production, is a change in technology.

In the face of AI technology, people cannot break through, but in it, when people enjoy the convenience of AI technology, have they ever felt anxious and worried about it?

In this issue, the New Hainan Client Culture Channel and the Hainan International Communication Center interviewed Zhang Chu, a famous contemporary novelist, to bring his views.

Writer's Observation 丨 Zhang Chu: It is necessary to formulate a global universal law to constrain AI technology

Zhang Chu: He has published novels in magazines such as "People's Literature", "Harvest", and "October", and published the novel collection "Seven Peacock Feathers", "How the Night Is Dark", "Miss Wild Elephant", "In the Clouds", "Middle-aged Women's Love History" and so on. He is currently the vice chairman of Tianjin Writers Association.

He has won the Lu Xun Literature Award, the Yu Dafu Novel Award, the People's Literature Short Story Award, the Chinese Writers' Big Red Eagle Literature Award, the Beijing Literature Award, the October Literature Award, the Novel Monthly Hundred Flowers Award, the Writers Golden Short Story Award, the Novel Selection Award, the Sun Li Literature Award, the Lin Jinlan Short Story Award, the Chinese Young Writers Award, etc. Some of his works have been translated into English, French, Russian, Japanese, Korean, German, Spanish and other languages.

1. Nowadays, AI plays an increasingly important role in society. In terms of your observations, how has it affected and changed your life?

I wasn't too affected by it. Maybe I'm too retarded, maybe it's already appearing at every point in my life, but I haven't noticed it? In fact, I am a little resistant to the supremacy of technology in my heart. Whatever it is, if the speed of development exceeds our imagination, there may be some problems.

2. Have you ever had anxiety about the rapid development of AI?

Anxiety has been. I think that if humans become extinct one day, there are only two possibilities: one is because of war, humans have eliminated humans; and the other is because of the development of AI technology, robots have eliminated humans and replaced them. I think the probability of the second possibility becoming a reality is higher.

3. How to look at science fiction literature now, if one day, the scene of science fiction literature becomes a reality, which novel do you want part of the plot to be realized?

I read fewer science fiction novels, and almost all the classic science fiction movies I have seen. I think it is inevitable that human beings will migrate to other planets in the future, and it is possible that scientists will find the truth about the origin of human beings like the movie "Prometheus", or like the TV series "Universe", all kinds of people will take spaceships to explore the ultimate secrets of the universe. The super civilizations in The Universe can make stars.

4. In the increasingly advanced era of AI, what skills do you think people should learn?

Go with the flow. Excessive obedience or excessive anxiety can lead to disaster.

5. Do you think there is a need for relevant laws and regulations to restrict AI technology?

I feel the need for a global law to govern AI technology, just as it is necessary to prohibit the birth of human cloning.

6. Are you worried about AI becoming artificial Homo sapiens?

I think it's inevitable that robots will one day mentally awaken and try to get out of human control and exploitation. The TV series "Westworld" is a particularly sincere fable.
