This is, of course, a joke. But from this joke, it can be seen that the ancients attached great importance to the title of manhood!
So, when did the title of manhood begin? It turned out that manhood began during the period of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty. Since the hussar general Huo Zhiyi led the Han Dynasty cavalry to move flexibly and deep into the hinterland of the Xiongnu, the Huns were invincible. The Xiongnu called the Han soldiers "Han'er" and "good Han" because of the bravery of the Han Dynasty soldiers.
In the Southern and Northern Dynasties, men were called "Hanzi" again.
"Good man" later referred to the handsome man among men. Su Shi has a poetry cloud: "A good man in the world, who is like Zhang Changshi" Zhang Changshi in the poem refers to Zhang Kamzhi, the famous minister during the reign of Wu Zetian.
After the Song and Yuan dynasties, "good men" were often used to praise people who "fought righteousness and neglected wealth, helped the needy and the poor", such as the heroes in "Water Margin". Over time, "Hanzi", "Good Man", and "Man" were mixed to form the term "manly".
