Tao Hai, a former inspector of the Anhui Provincial People's Air Defense Office, was sentenced to 10 years and 4 months in prison in the first instance

According to the Anhui Discipline Inspection and Supervision Network, on the afternoon of 18 May, the Chizhou Municipal Intermediate People's Court publicly pronounced a first-instance judgment on tao hai, former inspector of the Anhui Provincial People's Air Defense Office and former president of the Provincial Civil Defense Association, for accepting bribes, and sentenced Tao Hai to 10 years and 4 months in prison and a fine of 600,000 yuan for the crime of accepting bribes; and recovered 8.083 million yuan of Tao Hai's illegal gains.

The court found that from 2003 to 2019, defendant Tao Hai took advantage of his position as the director of the seven divisions of the Provincial Government General Office, the member of the party group of the Provincial Civil Air Defense Office, the deputy director, the inspector, the vice president and president of the Provincial Civil Defense Association, and other such positions, accepted the entrustment of others, and through recommending nominations, greeting relevant personnel, etc., to seek benefits for others in nominating the association's leadership position, handling civil air defense equipment production qualifications, undertaking civil air defense projects, and promoting posts, or taking advantage of the convenience of his own authority and position, etc., Through the acts of other state functionaries in their positions, they seek improper benefits for others and illegally accept cash from others totaling RMB8.083 million.

At trial, the court held that Tao Hai, as a state functionary, took advantage of his position to seek benefits for others and accept bribes, illegally accepted money and property from others, and the amount was particularly huge, and his behavior constituted the crime of accepting bribes. In view of the fact that Tao Hai had confessed, withdrew all the stolen funds, admitted guilt and accepted punishment, and other circumstances, he could be given a lenient punishment in accordance with law, so the above judgment was made in accordance with law.

After the court pronounced the verdict, Tao Hai did not say whether to appeal.
