Tao Hai, a former inspector of the Anhui Provincial People's Air Defense Office, was charged with accepting bribes of more than 8 million yuan in Chizhou

The reporter learned from the Chizhou City Intermediate People's Court that on the morning of 19 January, the Chizhou City Intermediate People's Court held a public trial of Tao Hai, former inspector of the Anhui Provincial People's Air Defense Office and former president of the Provincial Civil Defense Association, on suspicion of accepting bribes.

The public prosecution alleged that from 2003 to 2019, defendant Tao Hai took advantage of his position as director of the seven divisions of the Provincial Government General Office, a member of the party leading group of the Provincial People's Air Defense Office, a deputy director, an inspector, and the vice president and president of the Provincial Civil Defense Association, accepted the entrustment of others, and sought benefits for others in nominating leadership positions, handling civil air defense equipment production qualifications, undertaking civil air defense projects, and promoting them, or taking advantage of the convenience of his own authority and position to act through the duties of other state functionaries. Seeking improper benefits for others, illegally accepting property from others totaled RMB8.083 million.

The public prosecution organ held that defendant Tao Hai, as a state functionary, took advantage of his position to seek benefits for others and accepted bribes, the amount of which was particularly huge, and his conduct had violated the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, the facts of the crime were clear, the evidence was credible and sufficient, and he should be investigated for criminal responsibility for the crime of accepting bribes.

During the trial, the prosecution and defense presented, cross-examined and debated the facts of the allegations, and the court fully heard the opinions of the prosecutor, defendant and defender. Defendant Tao Hai made a final statement and pleaded guilty and repented in court. Sentencing in the case will be scheduled.
