Gao Shiqing, a 13-year-old Beijing teenager who is a wildlife conservation volunteer with several years of experience in the wild, will work with several volunteers from the "Cat Alliance" to survey the tracks of the North China leopard. The remnants of the Taihang Mountains in northwestern Beijing, more than 10,000 square kilometers of mountainous land, were once an important home for the North China leopard, but after 2005, the North China leopard has never appeared here. In 2012, the population of Leopards in North China was less than 500 and was included in the Red List of World Endangered Species. At that time, the closest wild North China leopard population to Beijing was as far away as Heshun, Shanxi, 400 kilometers away.

In 2017, a group of wildlife conservation volunteers from all over the country organized the "Cat Alliance" and launched the "Take the Leopard Home" campaign, with the intention of repairing and opening up the ecological corridor that was divided along the Taihang Mountain Range. Volunteers set off from Heshun, Shanxi, and headed north to the Huoliang Nature Reserve on the border between Shanxi and Hebei, a stop in the "Take the Leopard Home" ecological corridor. The camera clearly recorded the figure of the North China leopard here, and to the volunteers' surprise, just before the North China leopard appeared, an injured wild roe deer walked in front of the camera, and the North China leopard passed by while hunting prey. The North China leopard has migrated 200 kilometers north along the ecological corridor from Shanxi. Leopard breeding and migration will take time, Gao Shiqing said, he will continue to use his own installed infrared camera to observe, until the moment when beijing's mountain forest ecology upgrades to reproduce the North China leopard. Because the leopard has returned, it means that the ecological chain has returned to normal.

CCTV Financial Channel and CCTV Comprehensive Channel will soon broadcast a series of feature films "Common Homeland", so stay tuned!
