Beijing News (reporter Wang Sijie) Beijing News reporter learned on May 9 that the State Administration for Market Supervision issued a notice of 20 batches of unqualified food sampling, of which 1 batch of organic camellia oil produced by Hunan Xiangchun Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Hunan Xiangchun") has the problem of over-range use of food additives and does not meet the regulations of organic products.

After inspection by Fujian Provincial Product Quality Inspection and Research Institute, the "Xiangchun Oil Rice Aroma" organic camellia oil (primary pressing, low temperature cold pressing, 1.5L/bottle, 2020/7/23) and the test value of tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) sold by Zhejiang Haochao E-commerce Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Haochao E-commerce") in the online store, which is nominally produced by Hunan Xiangchun, meet the requirements of the national food safety standard of ≤0.2g/kg, but does not meet the stated quality requirements of the product. Haochao E-commerce raised objections to the inspection results and applied for re-inspection, and after re-inspection by Hefei Customs Technical Center, the preliminary inspection conclusion was maintained.

According to the State Administration for Market Regulation, tert-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) is an antioxidant that can slow down the oxidation of oils and fats and avoid rancidity. Eating a small amount will not bring health hazards to the body, and if it is consumed in large quantities for a long time, there is a potential health risk. In the "Requirements for the Production, Processing, Labeling and Management System of Organic Products" (GB/T 19630-2019), the list of food additives allowed in organic food processing does not include tert-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ). The reason why the test value of tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) in edible oil does not meet the stated quality requirements of the product may be that the manufacturer does not understand the relevant regulations of organic products and adds it to extend the shelf life of the product.

According to the information on the official website, Hunan Xiangchun was established in 2009, is a subsidiary of The Strange Health Industry Group specializing in the planting and deep processing of high-end healthy oilseed crops, is a demonstration enterprise of "China's good grain and oil" in Hunan Province, and has a brand chain store "Xiangchun Excellent Products", covering organic camellia oil, walnut oil, flaxseed oil, peony seed oil, perilla seed oil and other products.

On May 9, around why the batch of organic camellia oil contains antioxidants that do not meet organic standards, follow-up improvement measures and other issues, the Beijing News reporter has successively called the switchboard telephone and the chairman's contact information of the corporate headquarters displayed on the official website of Hunan Xiangchun, and the operator of the Hunan Xiangchun service hotline replied that he would relay the relevant problems to the technical personnel. As of press time, the other party has not replied.
