From January to September 2021, the volume of China-Europe express trains transiting through Russia reached 568,700 TEUs, an increase of 47% compared with the same period last year. And the traffic volume in the first three quarters has exceeded the total transportation volume of the whole year of 2020 (542,400 TEUs). Specifically, in the first three quarters of 2021, about 4.3 million tons of goods between China and Europe were transported by Russian railways, an increase of 1.6 times over the same period in 2020. Among them, the westbound traffic from China to Europe increased by 1.4 times to 37.96 TEUs, while the eastbound traffic increased by 1.7 times to 18.91 TEUs. Most of the goods in transit are industrial goods, chemical goods, automobiles and their assembly components, machine tools and engines.
