After a fantastic rookie season and a worse injury season last season, Brandon Clark celebrated the third season of his career. This season is extremely important to him, a season in which he is desperate to bottom out and prove himself again. Last season, due to his own injuries and poor form, coupled with the strong performances of Kyle Anderson and Tillman in the same position, he gradually became a marginal figure in the rotation of the team.
The team has his team options for next season, and Clark has the opportunity to reach an early contract extension with the team at the end of the season. His rookie contract will end in the 2023 offseason, and management has long seen him as morant and Jarren Jackson Jr.'s best-in-hand, and in a way, this season is also his contract year.
Clark's rookie season was largely due to his athletic prowess, but it was difficult to play out when he suffered frequent injuries such as calf strains and sore ankles. Last season, Coach Jenkins seemed more willing to let Tillman take his place.
For Clark, the most important question now is what is the team's position for his future? Is it a future plan for him with a team like Morant Jr. Jaren Jackson Jr.? Or is it a team puzzle that teams like Glenson Allen can trade just to save money or get more future assets? Or is it a substitute for a guy with an annual salary of around $10 million?
There's no doubt that Clark is the most dynamic of the squad when he's staying healthy. He has a high range of free throws on the go and is Morant's excellent fast-attacking partner. At the same time, his outstanding physical talent has given him the ability to switch from the No. 1 position to the No. 5 position, which is rare in today's NBA league. However, his jump shot feels terrible, and whether it's mid-range or three-pointers, his shooting percentage is always below the NBA average.
Since Dillon Brooks is currently unable to play due to injury, it will give other players in the team more playing time. This period of time may be a good performance opportunity for Clark. Clark doesn't need to be an All-Star, or even a favourite for the best sixth man like he did in his rookie season, he just needs to be back to himself, he needs to do what he needs to do. Cooperate with Morant in the small ball lineup, do a good job of your own defense, contribute some exquisite air connection, and improve your shooting efficiency.
How do you rate Clark? He's a very talented young player who suits the Grizzlies' style of play, and it's not too early to set the tone for what he's going to look like in the future.
Clark is eager to bottom out and prove himself in the league again!
