The Lamentations of Richard Jewell

The Lamentations of Richard Jewell is an exhilarating film.

The film tells the story of security guard Richard Jewell. He dreamed of becoming a policeman, but kept running into a wall. At the scene of an open-air concert, he found a bomb package, avoided large-scale casualties, and suddenly received great attention and became a hero.

But under the distorted media coverage and unfair investigation by the FBI, Richard Jewell went from hero to bombing suspect. He and his lawyer did not give in, rose up in resistance, broke free from the shroud of public opinion and the system, and gained innocence and dignity.

When it comes to individual rebellion against the collective, people generally think of intellectual games and wonderful fights like "Spy Heavy", but this movie does not have those bloody two-way contests.

Come to think of it, Jewell and his lawyer Bryant, as well as his family, did not do much of the work of the case itself, such as evidence gathering, logical reasoning, on-site investigation, and so on. Bryant went to the scene to calculate the theoretical time once, and also took Jewell to the news headquarters once to scold the street in public. Beyond that, it's basically going back and forth between bearing and elaborating.

Without amazing magical means, these two people just do their best to defend themselves in the overwhelming tide and not give in.

This is where I feel excited, the film does not borrow the suspenseful plot of wits and courage to show the process of resistance, but narrates the simple will of the living individual.

When is the will of man most prominent? Maybe it is not the ups and downs of the career deeds, but the upright walking under the pressure.

The so-called "walking upright" is to perform the most clumsy tricks, show the most primitive emotions, and hope for the most realistic results. You wronged me and I will be angry, you violated me to scold the street, you surrounded me and I wanted to rush out. I don't care how great the power is on the other side, Lao Tzu still fights back.

The gesture of fighting back is very ugly and very weak, and compared to the story of the rebels in many other movies, the behavior of two people finding the editorial department to scold the editor-in-chief is too shrewd and too marketable.

However, this is the biggest counterattack that individuals can make against the strong side. Although weak, it can also be called a critical hit. Just like McMurphy in "Flying Over the Madhouse", he tried to lift the incredibly heavy counter and smash the window, but in vain, he turned his head and said sadly: "At least I tried." ”

Throughout, Jewell and Bryant, two people with different personalities, are well matched, one is hot, the other is indifferent (just a little bit of a provocative). I'm glad neither of them has changed anyone.

The Lamentations of Richard Jewell

When I watched Jewell's last statement to the FBI, I always thought about being a little more hilarious and a little more open and a little more passionate, but not talking like you normally do. But looking back, why not, this is what a security guard who lives with his mother, loves snacks, is severely obese, wants to be a policeman, so he loves to be nosy but repeatedly makes jokes, this is the way that belongs to Jewell resists, unlike Bryant, unlike any other person.

So you see, the will is really not accompanied by high energy, nor can it portray all the wills in the same form. Stretching the will in a low-handed way is a correct understanding of the will, and speaking of the will in a personal way is respect for the will.
