Suffered from school bullying 15-year-old girl admitted to hospital

One day in February 2021, Chengdu ushered in a long-lost sunshine. But when Li Qian, a nurse at the Fourth People's Hospital of Chengdu, came to the sixth ward, she found that the curtains were tightly covered and there was no trace of light. Xiaoyi (pseudonym), a 15-year-old patient, sat on a bed, holding her legs, bowed her head, and curled up in a ball.

It turned out that Xiaoyi was bullied in school after entering high school, her parents only paid attention to her academic performance, and she was originally more introverted and quiet, and she encountered emotional and behavioral disorders in her adolescence. In February, she entered the four hospitals for treatment, and at first she was very passive, rarely talking, and always staying alone.

With the encouragement of Li Qian, Xiaoyi finally said her feelings. It turned out that she often posted some words she wanted to say in the circle of friends, but her friends did not like it, thinking that she was arrogant, blocking her, and even letting her suffer from the verbal violence and isolation of the people around her.

When Li Qian asked if she could share the content of the circle of friends, Xiao Yi was a little shy and did not dare to tell her. So, Li Qian pointed to the mailbox next to the nurse's station and told Xiaoyi that it was a story mailbox full of "secrets". If Xiaoyi likes to express herself in a written way, pass it on to the medical staff through this mailbox, so that they can know the story she wants to tell.

The mailbox, located in the corner of the nurses' station of the Psychosomatic Medical Center of the Fourth Hospital of Chengdu, was just set up in January this year. Many new patients who have just arrived in the ward may just glance at it from a distance and not know the real role of this mailbox. Some patients even think that this is a mailbox that can send letters to the outside world.

Writing letters to the "secret mailbox" she also showed a talent for writing

Head nurse Li Chunya told Red Star News that its name was "Secret" Storybox. Because there are many secrets in it, it is the inner words that patients dare not and cannot talk to, it is a window for them to try to ask for help and find hope, and it is also an auxiliary way for medical staff to help these patients solve psychological problems.

Under the guidance of Li Qian, soon the department received two letters written by Xiao Yi. Everyone found that Xiaoyi's inner world was not as calm as she usually showed.

It turns out that Xiaoyi's academic performance is very good, and she often sends some circles of friends to express emotions during adolescence. At the beginning, the classmates would comfort her, and after a long time, some people began to get tired of her behavior, and even felt a little "done". Over time, Xiaoyi suffered from the verbal violence and isolation of the people around her.

Xiaoyi told her parents about this, but her parents did not understand, and Xiaoyi's mother said: "This is how we came when we were young." Over time, Xiaoyi began not to talk to others, could not describe her mood in words, and finally even began to harm herself.

After a few days of correspondence exchanges, Li Qian also found that Xiaoyi had talent and ability in writing, and everyone immediately formulated a psychological care plan that was more suitable for Xiaoyi.

In the time that followed, Xiaoyi created many novels, many of which were featuring medical staff, telling how they became a great healer from the beginning to the end, despite all difficulties. In addition, she has become very willing to share her novels with the doctors and nurses in the department. Before and after, Xiaoyi delivered a total of more than a dozen letters to the secret mailbox, most of which were novels.

In April this year, Xiaoyi was discharged from the hospital, and now she has gone to school normally, and has not given up her hobby of writing novels. In addition, by calling the mayor's hotline, she praised the department staff for her unconditional positive acceptance and meticulous care. She also called the hospital and told Li Qian, who had helped her, that she wanted to become a nurse in the future, just as they had helped herself, and that she would help others in the future.

Dozens of patient letters have been received to better implement psychological care

Li Chunya, the head nurse, told Red Star News that the "secret mailbox" has received letters from dozens of patients since its establishment, which provides a good channel for them to pour out their hearts to help with treatment. "Since the epidemic, in medical outpatient clinics and psychological counseling, adolescents account for the majority of inpatients, and 2/3 of a ward is teenagers."

In order to deepen the understanding and communication with patients more deeply and systematically, the nursing team of the hospital's Psychosomatic Medical Center has innovatively invented a medium , the story mailbox. Through the story mailbox, the nursing team can make fuller use of the trivial time to find the patient's active resources, discover the nursing points, and then implement more standardized and professional psychological care for the patient.

"Very few people listen to them carefully, they have a hard time expressing themselves, or what they say is not taken seriously. Over time, they stop using language to express themselves. Li Chunya believes that from the current point of view, the "secret mailbox" needs to exist for a long time.
