Located northwest of Downtown Dali, Erhai is the second largest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province and the seventh largest in China. The Erhai Sea is blue in color, the lake is clear to the bottom, and it is famous for its beautiful landscapes and unique villages and towns, and the Erhai Sea is the main scenic resource of Dali Scenic Area and the most important birthplace of bai ancestors.

Erhai ancient called "Ye Yu Shui", also known as "Xi'er River", ErHe, Ye Yu River, Ye Yu Ze, Mi River, Kun Mi Chuan, Kunming Pond, etc., the waters of the Erhai Sea are vast, with a circumference of 116 kilometers, an area of about 251 square kilometers, although the area of the Erhai Sea is not as large as dianchi Lake, but due to the depth of the water level, the average lake depth is 10 meters, and the maximum lake depth is 20 meters. Therefore, the water storage capacity is larger than that of Dianchi Lake, which has a storage capacity of 2.9 billion cubic meters, while Dianchi Lake has only 1.5 billion cubic meters.
Erhai, named "Erhai" because it is shaped like an ear, is known as the "Pearl of the Plateau". Although the Erhai Sea is called the sea, it is actually a lake, and it is said that it is because Yunnan is deep inland, and the Bai people call it the Erhai Sea in order to show their yearning for the sea. This is also another of the eighteen monsters in Yunnan, called "lakes called seas".
Looking down from the air, the Erhai Sea is like a crescent moon, quietly lying between cangshan mountain and Dali dam. Rafting in the Erhai Sea gives people a poetic mood of "the boat is floating in the blue waves, and the people are swimming in the middle of the painting". Therefore, the Erhai Sea is also known as the mother lake of the Bai people, and the Bai ancestors call it the "Golden Moon"
Here, we still have to talk about the four famous scenes of Dali, the four most famous scenic spots in Dali, that is, the "Wind Flower Snow Moon", this friend should have heard, these four scenes are: the wind of Shangguan, the flowers of Xiaguan, the snow of Cangshan Mountain, and the moon of Erhai. Here you can also have a small poem, strung together, convenient for tourists to remember, but also very interesting: xiaguan wind, shangguan flower, lower guan wind blowing shangguan flower; Cangshan snow, Erhai moon, Erhai moon shine Cangshan snow, it sounds like it is not very interesting.
Let's talk about the Erhai Moon, Erhai because the water quality is particularly pure, the transparency is quite high, its reflection is extremely strong, so every august 15th of the lunar calendar Mid-Autumn Festival night, living in Dali Erhai Bai family to row a wooden boat into the Erhai Sea, enjoy the moon reflected in the sea, the sky, clouds, moon and sea water together, forming a beautiful scenery.
Unfortunately we went during the day and didn't have this beautiful view to watch. But in general, it is not necessary to see this scene on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, but it should only be the night of the fifteenth day of the lunar calendar, that is, on the night of the full moon, when the moon is empty, you can see this famous scene of the Erhai Moon on the Erhai Sea.
Tour the Erhai Sea, I personally recommend feeling is to take a cruise ship to go, there are three regular cruise ship docks on the Erhai Sea: Longgong Wharf, Taoyuan Wharf, And Shimonoseki Wharf. You can take a boat near you according to where you are staying. Today, we choose to take a boat to visit the Erhai Sea, a boat on the Taoyuan Pier, because Taoyuan Wharf is a more suitable embarkation point for touring the Erhai Sea and watching the panorama of the Erhai Sea.
Choose to use a cruise ship to tour the Erhai Sea, mainly considering that the boat tour of the Erhai Sea, you can get close to the Erhai Sea, watch the beautiful lake view of the Erhai Sea, you can also watch the Bai song and dance performance and the three tea performances with strong Bai style on the boat, and you can taste the bai famous three teas, and people are also relatively relaxed, it is really a choice of the best of both worlds.
The three teas of the Bai ethnic group are a way of drinking tea when the Bai people in Yunnan entertain VIPs, and are famous for their unique "bitter head, two sweet, three aftertastes", and the Bai tea ceremony has become a kind of etiquette for the Bai family to entertain guests and make friends as early as the Ming Dynasty. So friends come to Dali to travel, have the opportunity to experience the Bai three teas.
