Ghana is the world's second largest cocoa exporter after Côte d'Ivoire, with an annual output of about 850,000 tons, which is popular in the market because of its excellent quality, and is exported to Europe and other regions as the main raw material for local chocolate production.
Ghana's cocoa plantations are mostly distributed in rainforest areas, where the fruit ripens twice a year and a small harvest season occurs around July, with the main harvest season beginning in October.
