During the Republic of China period, there was a very strange phenomenon in Guangxi, Guangdong and Vietnam. At that time, the Vietnamese called Guangzhou "Provincial City", and even "Capital". Guangxi people call Vietnam "Annam", or "Annam Province".
I. Historically, why did the Annan people call Guangzhou the "provincial capital":
1. Historically, Annan has long been subordinate to China:
In fact, this is very normal, because in history, Annan was once subordinate to China for a long time and was a member of our country.
In the pre-Qin period, the areas of present-day Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macao, Hainan, and Annam were all subordinate to the Baiyue region of China;
During the Qin Dynasty, the areas of present-day Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macao, Hainan, and Annan were jointly subordinate to the "Three Counties of Lingnan" of the Qin Dynasty;
At the beginning of the Han Dynasty, the areas of present-day Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macao, Hainan, and Annam were jointly subordinate to the Han Dynasty vassal state of Nanyue;
In the middle of the Han Dynasty, the areas of present-day Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macao, Hainan, and Annan were jointly subordinate to the Department of The History of the Han Dynasty;
During the Tang Dynasty, the areas of present-day Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macao, Hainan, and Annan were jointly subordinate to Lingnan Province in the Tang Dynasty;
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the areas of present-day Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macao, Hainan, and Annan were jointly subordinate to the Southern Han Dynasty;
During the Song Dynasty, the Annam region was separated from the direct administration and became a vassal state of the Song Dynasty;
During the Ming Dynasty, the Annam region was sometimes a vassal state of the Ming Dynasty, and sometimes a direct jurisdiction of the Ming Dynasty- Annan Chengcheng declared the Political Envoy Division;
During the Qing Dynasty, the area of Annam was a vassal state of the Qing Dynasty;

2. Guangzhou has historically been the political center of the Lingnan region:
Looking at the history of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macau, Hainan, and Annam, as well as the relationship between them, we can find that Annan has not only been subordinate to China for a long time in history, but also a part of the Lingnan region of China. Guangzhou has historically been the political center of the Lingnan region, so it is not difficult to understand why the Annan people in history called Guangzhou the "provincial city".
During the Qin Dynasty, the "Three Counties of Lingnan": Nanhai County, Guilin County, and Xiang County, of which the county lieutenant of Nanhai County, Ren Hu, could control the "Three Counties of Lingnan", which was equivalent to the highest official of the "Three Counties of Lingnan". And Panyu, the seat of government of Nanhai County, is today's Guangzhou;
At the beginning of the Han Dynasty, the capital of the Han Dynasty vassal state of Nanyue was in Panyu, which is also today's Guangzhou;
During the Eastern Han Dynasty, the History Department of Jiaotong Thorn was renamed Jiaozhou, and the administrative office was also located in Guangzhou for a long time;
During the Tang Dynasty, the administrative office of Lingnan Province was also located in Guangzhou, under the jurisdiction of five major governors, namely: Guangzhou Governor's Mansion, Guizhou Governor's Mansion, Rongzhou Governor's Mansion, Yongzhou Governor's Mansion, and Annam Governor's Mansion;
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the capital of the Southern Han Dynasty was located in the Xingwangfu, which is also today's Guangzhou;
At the beginning of the Song Dynasty, the seat of guangnan road was also located in Guangzhou.
During the Qing Dynasty, the seat of the viceroy of Liangguang was also located in Guangzhou.
Ii. Historically, why the Guangxi people called Vietnam "Annam Province":
The reason why Guangxi people like to call Vietnam "Annam Province" in history is because annam's status in China has always been equivalent to the existence of "province" in history. In some historical periods, Annan's status did not even meet the standards of the "provincial" level. For example, during the Tang Dynasty, Annam was only the Governor's Mansion of Annam, which is equivalent to the current "sub-provincial" administrative division. The "provincial" administrative division of the Lingnan region of the Tang Dynasty was Lingnan Province.
However, during the Song Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, the status of Annam was still equivalent to that of the "provincial" level administrative division. Although during the Song Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, and Qing Dynasty, the Annam region mostly existed as a vassal state of China, and had less time as a direct jurisdiction. However, from the perspective of the Central Plains Dynasty and the inland provinces, Annam was no longer a vassal state, but it was only equivalent to a "province", and its economic, cultural, and political status was far inferior to that of the inland provinces. Therefore, it is not difficult to understand why Guangxi people in history called Vietnam "Annam Province".
3. Historically, the reason why the Annan people called Guangzhou "provincial city" is a kind of obsession:
The reason why an annan people call Guangzhou a "provincial city" in history is actually a recognition of China, a recognition of Annan's historical relationship with China, and an unforgettable love for China. Coincidentally, in the eyes of many Hong Kong people, Guangzhou is also equivalent to a "provincial city".
The reason why Guangxi people in history called Vietnam "Annam Province" is actually a kind of nostalgia for Annam, a kind of nostalgia for compatriots, a kind of nostalgia for brothers, and a kind of nostalgia for Annam.
