Moscow, 12 Oct (People's Daily Online) -- According to a report by TASS on 12 October, the Eighth Russian State Duma elected Volodin, the candidate of the "United Russia Party," as chairman of the new Duma at its first plenary meeting held on the same day.

According to sources, there are a total of 450 deputies in the Russian State Duma, of which 360 voted for Volodin. The candidate of the "Communist Party of Russia", Novikov, received a total of 61 votes, and the remaining parties did not nominate candidates for the post. Vasiliev, chairman of the Duma parliamentary group of the "United Russia Party", said at the congress that the party unanimously elected Vologin as chairman of the new Duma, and the presidents of all parties in the Seventh Duma recognized Volodin's professional performance of his duties as chairman of the Duma. Earlier, when Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the leaders of various parties on the election results of the new Duma, he expressed his support for Volodin as a candidate for the presidency of the new Duma and said that Volodin was fully eligible for re-election.

In addition, 11 members of the Russian State Duma were unable to attend the first plenary session of the new parliament due to the recent infection of the new crown virus. Wolokin said that 70% of lawmakers have been vaccinated against COVID-19, which is still a low proportion, and in the future it may restrict people's access to the State Duma building, restrict the operation of the catering department in the building, and encourage committees to work remotely.
