A Red Army bridge that has been walking for 87 years

Editor's Note:

The century-old history of our party is a history of practicing the party's original mission and mission, and a history of the party and the people connecting hearts, breathing together, and sharing a common destiny.

During the Red Army's stay in Guizhou, they fought local tycoons along the way, opened warehouses to release grain, and provided relief to the poor masses, winning the trust of the "Ganren" (meaning poor people). Ordinary people sacrificed door panels, cut bamboo, built pontoon bridges, and built wooden bridges, helped the Red Army to cross the Wujiang River twice and the Chishui River in four directions, led the way for the Red Army, sent intelligence, carried stretchers, and actively participated in the Red Army...

Although the smoke of war has dissipated for 87 years, the stories of the military and civilian fish and the Red Revolution left behind in that year are still passed down from generation to generation, and continue to inspire future generations to forge ahead. In order to fully tap and make good use of Guizhou's red resources and further carry forward the spirit of the great Long March, colorful Guizhou Network has launched a series of reports on "Seeing Great Changes on the 'Red Army Bridge'".

On the river side of Shaozhai Village in Gaotun Street, Liping County, there is a bridge that was jointly repaired by the Red Army and villagers 87 years ago, which is called "Shaozhai Red Army Bridge" by locals.

In mid-December 1934, the Red Army's advance company entered the village. At that time, the Kuomintang spread rumors that the Red Army killed people and set fires, and most of the villagers hid in the mountains. After the advance company entered the village, it was preached that the Red Army was a poor army. The warriors saw that the bridge over the Bazhou River was short and small, and proposed to repair it. The villagers found stumps and planks and built bridges with the Red Army.

Over the past 87 years, the Red Army Bridge has been repaired many times, and now it is about 1 meter wide, 76.4 meters long, more than 3 meters high, and has 18 wooden piers. The villagers specially formulated village rules and regulations to protect the bridge.

Every year, during the flood season, the villagers spontaneously take turns to guard the Red Army Bridge for 24 hours. Before the flood comes, remove all the planks and put them in a safe place; after the flood recedes, put the planks on the shelf.

Over the past 87 years, the masses of Shaozhai have carried forward the spirit of the Long March of the Red Army, meticulously guarded this Red Army bridge, developed production and construction of homes according to local conditions, and embarked on a new path of prosperity and ecological beauty for the people. The "Red Army Bridge" witnessed the water conditions of the military and civilians in that year, and also witnessed the earth-shaking changes in the appearance of the village.
