In fact, as early as 2017, Audi's Internet of Vehicles project took the lead in testing on the road in China. The project on display was based on LTE-V technology, which connects traffic signal machines, video surveillance facilities with vehicles (V2I), and vehicles to vehicles (V2V).

With the continuous development of technology, Audi unveiled the latest L4 level autonomous driving concept car Grandspher at the Munich Motor Show in September this year, and the V2X function based on the 5G communication module will also be installed on Audi's domestic A6L and A7L.

The entire pattern of urban transportation will change because of this trend, and even change the design of the car and its internal cockpit, but the change is a gradual process, and Audi has been promoting a lot of technical reserves.

Hoffman said: Although the industry's advanced technology is being rapidly recommended, but from the current point of view, it is not possible to integrate all the new technologies in one car, Audi to ensure that the technology configured on each car is meaningful, and can benefit users, and improve driving safety and comfort."

Audi Traffic Light Information (TLI) hands-on demonstration

As can be seen in this actual public road test, the Audi Traffic Light Information (TLI) also needs to be carried out under conditions supported by local infrastructure. Hoffman said That Audi currently has ten pilot cities across the country, including Shanghai, Hangzhou and Shenzhen. The most important point is that the pilot city must have supporting infrastructure, and it needs to have smart roads and infrastructure and vehicles to form an interconnection, so that it can be tested as a pilot city.

He also stressed that Audi is not involved in the development of these infrastructures, and one of the prerequisites for Audi to choose pilot cities is that these cities themselves have intelligent infrastructure and can form effective interconnections. At present, many cities in China are also vigorously investing in the construction of smart cities and infrastructure functions, which will also play a greater convenience for Audi's subsequent mass production vehicles on the road.

Audi's Collaborative Vehicle Import based on vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V)

Another sensitive issue, of course, is the collection and use of data. As we all know, at present, China attaches great importance to data security and supervision. Audi also said that the display link has been strictly in accordance with the compliance requirements, in advance to the competent unit for filing.

Zhao Hongda, senior manager of government affairs at the Audi Wuxi Expo exhibition project, also added that data security is guaranteed. On the one hand, we are showing the pre-production function, and on the other hand, the mass production function. Audi pays special attention to compliance requirements, and all of our mass production functions on the market have been approved by the appropriate ministries. For some pre-delivery functions, all operations are also compliant. The autonomous driving test will be supervised by people from map suppliers, and the data of traffic lights has clear cooperation content regulations with local governments, and after desensitization and filtering, it is transferred to our designated operators in China, not directly to Audi's "hands".

Forecasts show that China's high-end car consumer market will reach more than 4 million vehicles in the next decade, Chinese consumers have diversified needs, and Audi will also tailor products to consumers and market demand. Hoffman pointed out that Audi will uphold the commitment of "in China, for China" and promote Audi's research and development technology in China to take the lead in China. In the future, Audi's research and development results can be extended to more models, so this is not a "difficulty" or "challenge", this is a normal journey for the future.
