Andretti's deal to take over Sauber (i.e. F1 Alfa Romeo, sponsorship deal) has broken down, and Italy's moto sport says it has gotten the exact news. In fact, a week ago, several media reported that the transaction was on the verge of bankruptcy.
Andretti did not give any answer to the topic and said it would not be discussed in the near future. Insiders speculated that because the two had greater differences in the negotiation process, they were not happy to break up.
During the U.S. Grand Prix, parties said the deal was in its final stages, but apparently it failed in the end. Lausing has made an offer of 350 million euros (80% stake), and Andretti and the partners behind it are ready to pay the fee.
Andretti's plan was to bring Colton Herta to F1, so Alfa Romeo has never announced Bottas' team-mate. Hertha has been practicing simulators since September, and if the acquisition goes well, he should be seen at the practice sessions of the American Grand Prix.
Lausing wanted to keep the Sauber Group going, not just an F1 team, so it asked for an additional €250 million. This fee is not an acquisition fee, but rather a capital injection into the Sauber Group, which will ensure that the team will remain in good financial position for at least the next 5 years. But it's a bit too much for Andretti.
Sources say Sauber's team has been filled with an atmosphere of uneasiness among Hinville's employees, as nearly 200 employees who are not directly related to the team will be laid off under Andretti's plan.
If the news is true, it's not hard to see why the deal failed. In Lausin's view, money is nothing, what is important is to ensure that the team has a harmonious atmosphere, even if he wants to sell the team. Andretti fired these employees to save 50 million euros a year.
