The Yan Emperor had the characteristics of both a lion and a large dog, according to which it may be based on the Chinese stone lion, whose mission was to guard palaces, temples, etc. It is also like the Balinese lion (Barong), a patron saint who kills evil witches in order to maintain a balance between good and evil. It resembles a combination of a lion and a large dog, 2.1 m tall, weighs 198.0 kg, has orange-red hair, and wears iron rings on its strong limbs. Behind it is a white smoke cloud of mane, under the smoke cloud, is a sharp blade of brown hair, cheeks with a red six-pointed star-like structure, the forehead embedded with a clover-like golden yellow hair shell, the overall Yandi also has a volcanic appearance, its crown, facial mane and the spines behind it all have a volcanic theme. When you land from a high place, you will step out of the flames under your feet, and the wind will be awe-inspiring. Yandi also resembles short-billed dogs, such as the Tibetan mastiff, with its nose, brown fur and white paws resembling a St. Bernard dog. The design of Emperor Yan may have been inspired by Akuro, an Ezo chieftain in the early Heian period of Japan who was later known as the demon "Aka-gashira (red head)".
