On April 21, Russian satellite networks quoted the country's "Bond" news network as saying that former FIFA president Joseph Blatter (who is also often referred to as Sepp Blatter, his abbreviation for Joseph. Observer's Note) ranks what world leaders know about football.

Blatter believes that Chinese President Xi Jinping is the most knowledgeable expert on football among the leaders of various countries, ranking second with former South African President Mandela, third with Pope Francis and Russian President Vladimir Putin in fourth place. British reporters at Sky Sports online placed footage of Blatter's autobiography on social networking sites.

Blatter's rankings are followed by The President of Russia by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, former Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi, King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former French President Jacques Chirac and former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

The 79-year-old former FIFA president has launched his autobiography Joseph Blatter: Football Mission. An English version of the book will be published in May this year.

On 23 December 2015, Blatter announced his retirement from football after the FIFA Ethics Committee decided on 21 December to impose an eight-year "ban" on him, which was shortened to two years in February 2016. The sanctions are based on the payment of 1.8 million euros in 2011 by Blatter to michel Platini, the current president of UEFA.
