On January 5, the reporter learned from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Fisheries Science Research Institute that in 2020, Xinjiang will increase and release nearly 1.5 million endangered and protected fish such as flat snout fish, and the release will not only conserve rare and endangered aquatic wildlife resources, but also improve the ecological environment of the waters.

The reporter learned that the endangered and protected fish species such as the flatnose fish that are stocked and released in Xinjiang involve three kinds of aquatic wild animals under national key protection, such as flatnose fish, Arctic fennel and Tarim split-bellied fish, and 7 kinds of autonomous region-level key protected aquatic wild animals such as Xinjiang naked heavy lip fish, spotted heavy lip fish and wide-mouth split-bellied fish.

Among them, the stocking of flat snouts is nearly 150,000. Flatnose fish, commonly known as Xinjiang bighead fish, is a special fish in China, but also a precious species in the world's split-bellied fish, only existing in the Tarim River Basin, known as the living fossil of ancient fish, is a national first-class protected aquatic wildlife. The List of Wild Animals under National Key Protection approved by the State Council in December 1988 is listed as a "first-class protected animal", which belongs to the same level as the giant panda and has high economic and academic value.

The reporter learned that in recent years, the flat-kissed fish are mainly released in Bosten Lake, and the effect of breeding and stocking in the past 4 years has been evaluated: Bosten Lake has been released and recaptured 2 tails in 2017, 1 tail in 2018, 5 tails in 2019, and more than 20 tails in 2020. The first back-catch in 2017, and the re-discovery of flatnose fish in Bosten Lake since 1998, after nearly 20 years, is of great significance, which proves that the current water environment and fish structure of Bosten Lake are suitable for the growth of Xinjiang flatnose fish. At the same time, it shows that the breeding and stocking of flatnose fish has achieved remarkable results.

In terms of special rescue of endangered species, in April 2020, the Aquatic Wildlife Rescue Center of the Autonomous Region Fishery Science Research Institute artificially induced the production of 15 groups of flatnose fish, artificial insemination obtained about 200,000 fertilized eggs, and 120,000 fry blooms were hatched in the workshop, with an hatching rate of about 60%.

Niu Jiangong, senior engineer of the Autonomous Region Fisheries Science Research Institute and director of the Environmental Monitoring Center, introduced that at present, the Wild Aquatic Rescue Center of the Autonomous Region Fisheries Science Research Institute breeds an average of 200,000 flatnose fish per year, and the main purpose of flatnose fish breeding is for the scientific research of aquatic wild animals.
