This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Shanghai Organization of the Jiusan Society, and the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Jiusan Society launched the "Sages" - Short Video Production Invitational Competition, hoping that the members would tell the "same heart story" of their ancestors through the lens and use the language of video to learn their patriotic spirit and noble qualities.

The Fengxian District Committee of the Jiusan Society signed up for the first time to plan the filming of a documentary film on Wang Jiayi, a "93 sage" born in Fengxian, and set up a working group.

Elder Wang's life spanned shanghai and hubei, and also connected shanghai and hubei. How to tell his story well?

The Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Jiusan Society contacted the Hubei Provincial Party Committee of the Jiusan Society, and received great support from the Provincial Party Committee and the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee, and the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences also enthusiastically provided help in all aspects. Through many efforts, we finally found and contacted Wang Lao's former colleagues, students and family members, and invited social history experts who understand this period of history to assist in filming.

Wang Jiayi, the founder of Chinese protozoology, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the first director of the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

He was born in 1898 in Fengxian District, Shanghai (formerly Fengxian County, Jiangsu Province).

In 1952, he joined the Jiusan Society and successively served as a member of the Central Committee, vice chairman of the Shanghai Branch, and standing committee member of the Central Committee.

Sixty-seven years ago (1954), he obeyed the state's arrangement to move the aquatic institute from Shanghai to Wuhan.

Soon after, he established the earliest local Jiusan Society organization in Wuhan, and concurrently served as the chairman of the Wuhan Branch of the Jiusan Society.

On June 21, led by He Yizhou, a member of the Fengxian District Committee of the Society, the film crew set off from Shanghai and followed in the footsteps of Elder Wang to Wuhan. After 67 years, tracing the bits and pieces left by Elder Wang...

At the first stop, the film crew went to the Hubei Provincial Party Committee of the Jiusan Society, where they interviewed Cai Guobin, secretary general of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee, and Tang Ming, former director of the Propaganda Department of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee.

Cai Guobin is one of the deputy editors of the "History of the Jiusan Society in Hubei Province", in the process of compiling the history of the society, he interviewed a large number of members who had intersected with Elder Wang, and had a deep understanding of Elder Wang's experience, "In the early days of the establishment of the Wuhan Organization of the Jiusan Society, there were only a few people, but because Wang Jiayu and other leaders had a very high scientific research prestige, they attracted many people to join, and the organization was able to grow rapidly. ”

Tang Ming has been in contact with Wang Jiayuan since he was a child, and he shared the story of his relationship with Wang Lao with the film crew. He said that Elder Wang's style, backbone, heritage, and temperament are revealed in every word and deed, which is an example that we will always learn from.

The Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was the second stop of the shooting, and the film crew interviewed Cao Wenxuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a ichthyologist. He is a colleague of Wang Jiayu and the initiator of the "ten-year ban on fishing" policy in the Yangtze River. Although he is 87 years old, Academician Cao Wenxuan still remembers the thousands of instructions of Elder Wang to his work and the highlight of the moment when they jointly completed the study of aquatic life in the Tibetan plateau.

Subsequently, the film crew also interviewed Miao Wei, deputy director of the Institute of Aquatic Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who is the third generation of wang jiayi's students and studied under academician Shen Yunfen. Speaking of Elder Wang, Miao Wei's words are full of nostalgia, talking about scientific research, he is full of passion, "In 2016, 40 years after the death of Elder Wang, 10 years after the death of Academician Shen Yunfen, the book "Chinese Fauna: Cilia Dumen Oligomeric Hair" was finally completed after three generations of hard work by scientific researchers! Although there are still many unknowns to be explored before the completion of Wang Lao's vision of "Chinese Protozoa", I believe that more and more Chinese scientific researchers will strive for this and promote China's scientific development to a new level. ”

At the third stop of the shooting, the film crew met the wang bingbing family, the eldest daughter of Wang Jiayu. Although it has been nearly 70 years since the family moved from Shanghai to Wuhan, when the film crew chatted with Wang Bingbing in Shanghainese, she still felt very kind and answered. "My father always worked in the office, so until he died, the furniture was like new," she recalls. Elder Wang's son-in-law said that in the last ten days of Elder Wang, the most nagging was not his personal posthumous affairs, but his students urged them to continue to engage in research on protists and continue to contribute to the country and the people.

During the filming, the film crew also went to the Wuhan Municipal Archives, Wang Jiayi's Former Residence, Wang Jiayi's Tomb and other places to shoot the cultural relics and historical buildings involved.

At present, the former residence of Wang Jiayu is being repaired urgently, and many photos and old furniture have been put in place. In it, it seems that you can still feel the busy daily work of Elder Wang here, and feel every minute and second of his dedication to the study of chinese protozoology.
