Yu Lianqing said that his father was also an old hydrologist who had worked at the hydrological station all his life, first at a hydrological station in Gander, Sanjiangyuan District, which no longer existed, and was later transferred back to the Xiangtang Hydrological Station as the station manager. After his father retired, he graduated from junior high school in 1981 and took over, working at the Xiangtang Hydrological Station, then being transferred to the Hydrological Station in Jungong Township, Sanjiangyuan District, for 1 year, and then to the Mado Hydrological Station for 3 years. Although these three hydrological stations are in the source area, they are not in one direction and are far apart, more than 200 kilometers.

There are currently 11 hydrological stations in Sanjiangyuan District, and Yu Lianqing alone has worked on 3. After he finished his work in Mado, he attended the staff school for 2 years, then worked in Xiangtang for 7 years, and then was transferred back to Tang Naihai in the source area as a station manager, and worked for 20 years. Now he has been dry hydrology for 39 years, and it will be 40 years soon.

Tang Naihai Hydrological Station is a very old hydrological station, which was established in 1939. There is also one of the earliest hydrological stations established in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, which is the Lanzhou Hydrological Station, which was built earlier in 1934. The others were built after the founding of New China.

He said that the work of the hydrological station, year after year, day after day, is to measure the flow, sand content, rainfall, etc., the work is not complicated, the key is to worry, careful, but also not afraid to eat, endure loneliness, withstand repetition. Repeating a thing a hundred times is nothing remarkable; repeating it a thousand times is boring and tedious; repeating it 10,000 times is remarkable. And Yu Lianqing has been repeating it for almost 40 years, more than fifteen thousand times! Hydrological stations are generally still remote and have few personnel, that is, six or seven people. In the past, there was no cultural life, unlike the Internet now, and no matter how remote it was, it was connected to the big world.

While we were talking, two young men moved two chairs and sat down next to us. Yu Lianqing introduced: "Both of them are college students who were just assigned last year, and this girl is still a graduate student. ”

The girl's name is Huang He, 25 years old, undergraduate and graduate students are Ningxia University hydrology and water resources engineering major, home is in Yinchuan City. The boy's name is Liu Jiawei, even younger, only 23 years old, graduated from Shangqiu Institute of Technology with a major in accounting, and grew up in the provincial capital city of Zhengzhou.

I asked, from the capital city to a remote ravine, is it customary? They said it was ok, better than expected. It seems that they are all ready to suffer.

It is reported that there are three other people at the Minhe Hydrological Station. A female comrade, more than 30 years old, named Gao Mengyao, graduated from the East China Water Institute, is a citizen and a local, and her father was also from the Xiangtang Hydrological Station. The other is Wei Tao, 50 years old this year, who is also the second generation of hydrology. There is also a man named Xue Jindai, who is in his 40s. Two young people who have just started working can get more than 4,000 yuan. Those who work at the hydrological stations in the source area have a subsidy of more than 1,000 yuan per month in remote areas. After the flood season, they can usually enjoy more than two months of vacation, and they can return to the city to spend time with their parents.

Even so, Yu Lianqing said, this is the grass seed sown over the years, greening, much better, reducing a lot of soil erosion, so the sediment content in the river has dropped significantly.

Yu Lianqing said that in recent years, they have also been on the intelligent monitoring and reporting system, and the workload has been reduced a lot, and they used to rely entirely on manual water intake for testing. Now although manual measurements are still necessary every day, it is mainly to compare with artificial intelligence systems, and once stabilized, it is basically possible to use manual measurements.
