Chester County Sheriff said Monday that Gene Alexzander Scott, 24, was charged with two counts of murder last Thursday on suspicion of shooting and killing grandfather Jean Rogers, 61, and great-grandmother Billie Rogers, 78.

According to a case report obtained by The New York Post, the two men were found dead in their home on June 21, 2020. At that time Scott called police, claiming that "someone had killed his grandfather and great-grandmother". Investigators said Scott was found kneeling on the ground at the end of his driveway and "crying very sadly."

A spokesman for the local sheriff's office told The New York Post that Scott was formally indicted after an in-depth investigation into the killings 16 months ago. Police said that in the same house where the bodies of the two men were found, Gene Rogers had raised his grandson Scott. The murder was believed to have been "financially motivated," but police declined to provide more details.

The suspect was a U.S. Army soldier stationed in Welsek, Germany. Scott was arrested by U.S. gendarmes hours after a South Carolina grand jury indicted him on both murder and weapons possession while committing violent crimes. Officials said he had been escorted back to the United States on Saturday.

If convicted, Scott will reportedly face up to 30 years in prison.
