Spanning 30 years, the film depicts the life of a mother and son who depended on each other in the northern land during and after World War II, and the mother Jiang Liantie raised her two sons in a cruel environment. The second son, Shujiro, grew up to be a great success in his career, and after returning from the United States, he wanted to take his mother to live with him. In order to let his mother live a happy old age, Shujiro decided to travel with his mother to Hokkaido.

Kitanosaki is the final chapter of the Kitano-no-Mori is the final chapter of the Kitano Trilogy set in Hokkaido, directed by Yojiro Takita, who directed "Entering the Mortician Division".
