Today (October 1st) morning, the main tunnel of the Kyaw Ba Shan Tunnel, a high-altitude long tunnel located at 3884.4 meters above sea level and a total length of 6995 meters, located in Mangkang County, Changdu City, Tibet, was officially opened, which is also the longest road tunnel in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
The Kyaw Ba Shan Tunnel is a major difficulty and control project of the key section of the National Highway 318 Zhubalong to Nyingchi Highway. After more than three years of hard work by the builders, the main cave of the Kyaw Pa Shan Tunnel was officially opened.
The section where the Kyaw Pa Shan Tunnel is located is a famous dangerous section of National Highway 318, and the 29-kilometer winding road has many sets of continuous curves, with frequent disasters such as landslides, mudslides, snow and dark ice. Since the start of construction on May 1, 2018, the construction of the Kyaw Pa Shan Tunnel has encountered various difficulties.

The breakthrough of the Kyaw Pa Shan Tunnel will shorten the journey by 19 kilometers, which will have a positive effect on improving the traffic quality of the Kyaw Pa Shan section of National Highway 318, improving the travel time of local residents, and promoting regional economic and social development.
