On the morning of October 26, 1947, the wandering posts of our army were patrolling the area around the Taizi River in Liaoyang, Liaoning. This is the junction of the Liberated Areas and the Kuomintang Unified Areas, so there are often Kuomintang plainclothes teams operating in this area.
Suddenly, a figure dressed in the uniform of a major in the Nationalist army broke into the sight of our sentry. Several sentries saw the situation, hurriedly aimed their guns at this figure, and shouted loudly to make the other party stand still and not move.
However, what several sentries did not expect was that in the face of the muzzle of the gun, the major of the Nationalist Army did not have the slightest nervousness, but said with an excited face: "Don't shoot, your own people." ”
Dressed in the uniform of a major in the Nationalist Army, but told the People's Liberation Army sentry that he was his own? Several sentries naturally did not believe this, and still aimed their guns.
The Nationalist major looked at this situation and knew that several sentries did not believe him. He can also understand this, after all, his identity is special, and few people in the People's Liberation Army know his true identity. So he didn't say much more, but told the sentries, "Take me to your company headquarters." ”
For this request, several sentries certainly would not refuse. Whether or not what the Nationalist major said was true or not, the sentries were going to arrest him to the company headquarters for interrogation.
In this way, the Nationalist major was quickly escorted to the company headquarters by the sentries.
Because it was a nationalist major who was caught, the company commander and instructor of the company headquarters soon came to the nationalist major and wanted to find out.
But what no one present expected was that before the company commander and the instructor could say anything, the nationalist major actually said, "Don't ask any more questions, send me to your battalion headquarters." ”
When the company commander and instructor heard this, they were a little upset. A major in the Nationalist Army, captured and still so arrogant? However, considering that this nationalist major does have some weight, in case he really has any important information, then it is not a matter of delaying all the time. So the company commander and the instructor could only "pinch their noses" and arrange for someone to send the nationalist major to the battalion headquarters.
However, even when he arrived at the battalion headquarters, the nationalist major still said the same thing, and asked the battalion headquarters to continue to send him to his superiors.
In this way, the major of the Nationalist Army was sent all the way to the Liaoning Military Region.
When standing in front of Wu Ruilin, commander of the Liaoning Southern Military Region, the nationalist major finally stopped "hiding" and showed off his true identity: his name was Zhao Wei, an intelligence officer appointed by the party Central Committee to lurk within the Kuomintang, code-named "902."

Worried that Commander Wu Ruilin would not believe his words, Zhao Wei also bluntly said that he could call the Intelligence Department of the Party Central Committee to inquire, and Chief Li Kenong could prove his identity.
After all that was said, Wu Ruilin immediately sent a telegram to the Intelligence Department of the Party Central Committee to verify Zhao Wei's identity.
Soon after, the Central Committee called back to confirm that Zhao Wei was indeed a secret agent of our party lurking inside the Nationalist army.
So when did Zhao Wei become an agent of our party?
Why is his identity so secret, and he needs to seek verification from the Intelligence Department of the Party Central Committee to determine it?
Why was he caught by our sentries at the junction of the Liberated Areas and the Kuomintang Area, and what did he come here for?
In this issue, Xiu Said takes everyone into the lurking experience of the legend of ace agent Zhao Wei.
In 1919, Zhao Wei was born in Wending County, Hebei Province, in a family of scholars.
In the process of growing up, seeing that the land of China has been poisoned by foreign enemies, the country is in turmoil. Zhao Wei, like many aspiring young people at that time, was determined to do something for this country.
In 1937, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out in full swing, and Zhao Wei's desire to serve the country became increasingly strong. Two years later, 20-year-old Zhao Wei resolutely applied for the Guilin branch of the Whampoa Military Academy and began his military career.
During his time in school, Zhao Wei ranked among the best in all his homework and became the best among his classmates. Because of his outstanding achievements, he was also personally received by Chiang Kai-shek and was given a Zhongzheng sword engraved with the words "If you don't succeed, you will become a ren".
In order to win over these Huangpu students, Chiang Kai-shek also specifically said to Zhao Wei and other students: "Your parents are my parents, and your brothers and sisters are my brothers and sisters." ”
These words were "sincere and sincere", which made Zhao Wei and his classmates very moved, thinking in their hearts to do a good job in the national army and contribute their own strength to the anti-Japanese struggle and national salvation.
However, what Zhao Wei did not expect was that after graduation, he was not assigned to the front line to fight against Japan, but was assigned to the machine gun company of the Independent Regiment of the 13th Army as a second lieutenant trainee to train new soldiers.
Although after the probationary period, Zhao Wei was promoted to lieutenant platoon leader with excellent training results, it seems that the future is very good. But this was not what Zhao Wei wanted, from the moment he applied for the Whampoa Military Academy, all he thought about all the time was to go to the anti-Japanese front to serve the country.
After much consideration, Zhao Wei decided to give up everything in the present, leave the 13th Army, and go to his old superior who served as the chief of the student corps at the Whampoa Military Academy, and then fulfilled his wish to go to the front line to resist Japan.
However, what Zhao Wei did not expect was that when he traveled thousands of miles to Shaanxi, the old superior did not accept him, but instead trained him. In desperation, Zhao Wei came to the headquarters of the Fifth Commander and asked zhu Jianguo, a friend who was serving as a staff officer here, to help.
And it was precisely this choice that finally made Zhao Wei throw himself into the arms of our party.
Zhu Jianguo was working in the Appeasement Group of the General Staff Office, whose main duty was to deal with the Communist Party. Therefore, when they searched for our Party organizations and comrades, they also seized a large number of red books.
After Zhao Wei came, he didn't have anything to do, and when he had nothing to do, he flipped through these red books, gradually understood communism and our party's policies, and began to question the Kuomintang's secret policy of "preventing communism, restricting communism, dissolving communism, and opposing communism."
It just so happens that Zhu Jianguo's identity is obviously an officer of the Nationalist Army, but in fact he is an underground party member of our Party lurking inside the Nationalist Army. Under his guidance, Zhao Wei's thinking slowly changed, and he began to reconsider the method of repaying the country and saving the people.
However, at that time, it was during the period of cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communists, and in order to maintain the anti-Japanese national united front, Zhu Jianguo did not develop Zhao Wei.
Until the end of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Zhu Jianguo served as an operational staff officer in Tianjin for the commander of the Eleventh Theater of operations of the Kuomintang, and Zhao Wei happened to pass through Tianjin to serve as a major staff officer at the Kuomintang Northeast Security Headquarters.
Seeing that the time was ripe, Zhu Jianguo wanted to develop Zhao Wei into an intelligence officer of our party. Therefore, at the recommendation of Zhu Jianguo, Zhao Wei met Wang Shijian, a senior cadre of the CCP's intelligence department, in Beiping in March 1946.
At first, Zhao Wei wanted to join our party directly, and then go to Yan'an and completely break away from the nationalist army. However, after considering it, Wang Shijian felt that Zhao Wei could play a greater role by continuing to stay in the nationalist army to engage in intelligence work, so he persuaded Zhao Wei to continue to stay in the nationalist army.
Under the persuasion of Wang Shijian, Zhao Wei finally accepted the organization's arrangement. Considering the particularity of Zhao Wei's work within the Nationalist Army, Wang Shijian also explained to Zhao Wei: He must maintain "one-line contact" with his superiors, cannot contact other traffic officers, and cannot reveal his identity to anyone, even the closest family members.
This is also why after Zhao Wei was later caught by the sentry of our army, he needed to ask the Intelligence Department of the Party Central Committee to verify his identity.
Of course, to become an intelligence officer of our party is not just lip service, but also needs to be evaluated, after all, this job involves too much. However, Zhao Wei is a professionally trained military personnel after all, so after a period of assessment, the organization recognized his latent ability.
At this point, Zhao Wei officially became a red agent on the secret front of our party. In order to facilitate contact, Li Kenong personally awarded Zhao Wei the code name of "902". And Zhao Wei's thrilling lurking experience also opened up.
After Zhao Wei and Wang Shijian met, they went directly to the Jinzhou Kuomintang Northeast Security Headquarters to report. Soon after, he was transferred to Shenyang with the headquarters and served as a staff officer in the combat department, in charge of the secret room.
At that time, the Secret Room had two important duties:
1. Responsible for marking the northeast combat situation map in the office of the chief of staff of the Northeast Security Command of the Nationalist Army;
Second, a monthly table of troops at or above the national army level is compiled, and the code names, numbers, and garrison information of the troops of the national army in the northeast must be recorded in detail.
This information was an absolute secret of the Nationalist army, but Zhao Wei could access it.
Soon after, Zhao Wei received an important piece of information: Du Yuming, the commander of the Northeast Security Command, planned to gather 120,000 troops and launch an offensive against the Eastern Liaoning region, which was scheduled for early April.
Just in time, Yuan Ze, an underground staff member of our party sent by Wang Shijian to contact Zhao Wei, also came to Shenyang and completed the joint with Zhao Wei.
Therefore, Zhao Wei informed Yuan Ze of Du Yuming's plan to attack Liaodong and asked him to pass it back as soon as possible.
Originally, Zhao Wei also wanted Yuan Ze to bring back the newly compiled national army strength allocation table, but the configuration table was too thick and difficult to carry out, and in desperation, the two could only give up.
But this incident also greatly touched the two people, after discussion, the two asked the underground party organization for help, let them find a way to set up a secret radio station in Shenyang that can send intelligence to the outside world, which can undoubtedly greatly improve the efficiency of intelligence transmission.
Soon, Wang Shijian arranged for an underground party organization to set up a secret radio station not far from Zhao Wei's office. Since then, all kinds of intelligence about the nationalist army have been continuously transmitted back to the intelligence department of our party from this secret radio, and it can be said that Zhao Wei's intelligence work has been fruitful at this time.
In addition to intelligence work, what Zhao Wei talked about most during this period was the "false transmission of military orders".
Soon after Zhao Wei transmitted Du Yuming's attack plan back to our army, Du Yuming began to deploy troops. After receiving the order, the Nationalist 13th Army quickly transferred the 89th Division and the 54th Division from Chifeng back to Shenyang, ready to rush to the intended attack point.
However, when the 13th Army set out, Zhao Wei could not hear the relevant information.
At this time, Zhao Wei's experience in the 13th Army provided him with great help. Under the pretext of visiting his classmates, he boarded a special train of the headquarters of the 13th Army at the Shenyang Railway Station and inquired about the military arrangements of the 13th Army.
It turned out that Du Yuming's plan was to attack the Liberated Areas together after all the assembled Nationalist troops were in place.
It should be known that Du Yuming's nationalist army strength gathered at that time amounted to 120,000, and although our army had already responded in advance based on the information provided by Zhao Wei, if the nationalist army really wanted to rush forward, our army would face tremendous pressure.
So, how can the 13th Army be organized to meet with other Nationalist forces?
After thinking about it again and again, there was only one choice in front of Zhao Wei, that is, to let the 13th Army launch an attack in advance.
After all, at this time our army has already made a good countermeasure, the 13th Army launched an attack in advance, then our army is facing only the 13th Army, and when other Nationalist troops arrive, our army has already defeated the 13th Army, which will undoubtedly greatly reduce the pressure on our army.
But how can the 13th Army launch an offensive? Zhao Wei was only a major staff officer, and he had no right to issue such a military order.
However, Zhao Wei has been working within the Nationalist Army for many years and has some understanding of the chaotic management of the Nationalist Army. After thinking about it, he immediately drafted a military order:
Urgent electricity, Commander Shi: After your military vehicle was transported to Qingyuan, you marched quickly to Sanyuanpu in Xinbin, quickly entered the position, carried out a strong attack, and occupied the commanding heights of Lanshan Mountain.
In order to prevent the investigation afterwards, Zhao Wei strictly followed the procedures for issuing previous military orders, drafted them, and submitted them to the chief of the operations section.
As a grassroots combat staff officer, Zhao Wei drafted military orders at the behest of his superiors. Therefore, the chief of the operations section thought that which superior commander had asked Zhao Wei to draft, and without looking closely, he signed the military order.
In this way, after the chief of operations section, the chief of staff, and the chief of staff signed it one after another, the order was quickly sent to the 13th Army.
The military order was like a mountain, and the 13th Army immediately set out for the predetermined attack point after receiving it. What they did not expect was that our army had already laid a net there, and eventually the 89th Division of the 13th Army and the 162nd Regiment of the 54th Division were all annihilated.
The 13th Army was the main force of Du Yuming's offensive plan, and after being severely damaged, other Nationalist troops fled one after another, which directly led to the bankruptcy of the entire offensive plan.
Afterwards, Du Yuming was angrily reprimanded by Chiang Kai-shek. Back at the headquarters, he began to investigate who had given the order to let the 13th Army attack in advance.
Although it was found that the military order was drafted by Zhao Wei, the process was completely in line with the specification. In addition, most of the war departments are Whampoa graduates, and everyone is more united. The matter is over.
It can be said that in this matter, it fully reflects Zhao Wei's "boldness and carefulness" as an ace agent.
In mid-May 1947, the Northeast Democratic Coalition Army launched a summer offensive.
Under Zhao Wei's intelligence work, the offensive plan of the Nationalist army did not have any secrets for our army. The entire summer offensive lasted for more than 50 days, during which time, with the support of Zhao Wei's intelligence, the Northeast Democratic Coalition Army annihilated 83,000 enemy troops, recaptured 42 towns, and expanded the liberated area by 160,000 square kilometers.
In view of Zhao Wei's intelligence work during this period, the Party Central Committee specially sent a telegram to give commendations. Even the central leaders bluntly said that Zhao Wei's intelligence contributions were "the greatest achievements."
If Zhao Wei's intelligence work can continue forever, there will undoubtedly be more help for our army. But the dangers of intelligence work are everywhere, and no one knows when they will be exposed.
In July 1947, disappointed by Du Yuming's performance on the northeast battlefield, Chiang Kai-shek removed Du Yuming from his post and put Chen Cheng on top, and before Chen Cheng arrived, Zheng Dongguo acted as commander.démiss.
Although Zheng Dongguo was only the acting commander-in-chief, he also hoped to make some achievements before Chen Chenglai, so he ordered Zhao Wei, who had previously served under him, to formulate a "northeast key defense plan".
After Chen Cheng arrived in the northeast, he approved of the plan. So he arranged for Zhao Wei to go to Beiping with his plan and report to Chiang Kai-shek in person.
On October 7, Zhao Wei arrived in Beiping. However, he did not rush to Chiang Kai-shek's official residence at the first time to report the plan. Instead, he first went to Beixiangyuan to inquire about the situation with his old classmates, because Zhao Wei had already learned that the secret radio station in Shenyang had been exposed before coming to Beiping, and the comrades who had joined him had been arrested.
However, what Zhao Wei did not expect was that from his old classmates, he actually heard another bad news: Zhu Jianguo was an underground party and had been arrested.
This made Zhao Wei panic for a while. If you want to know that he was introduced by Zhu Jianguo to become an intelligence officer of our party, and many generals of the Nationalist army also know that he and Zhu Jianguo are good friends, then has he also been exposed?
After much thought, Zhao Wei decided to find someone to inquire about the details. This time, he sought out Li Baocheng, an old classmate who was a lieutenant colonel staff officer at the Beiping Ironclad Train Column Headquarters.
From Li Baocheng, Zhao Wei not only confirmed the news of Zhu Jianguo's arrest, but also learned that Xie Shiyan, Ding Xing, Zhao Liangzhang, and more than a dozen other Nationalist officers had been arrested.
At this point, Zhao Wei understood that Peiping's intelligence system had been seriously damaged. So what should I do?
At this time, Zhao Wei suddenly remembered that Wang Shijian had told him that if he lost contact with Zhu Jianguo, then he could go to No. 8 Kuzi Hutong on Baozi Street to find a comrade named Wang Xiao.
Although it is known that the underground organization in Peiping has been seriously damaged, it is not known whether Wang Xiao has been arrested. But at this time, Zhao Wei had no choice, he could only try hard.
Fortunately, at this time, Wang Xiao was not arrested, and also explained to Zhao Wei the situation of the underground party organization in Beiping at this time, and agreed with Zhao Wei to meet again the next night to discuss what to do next.
However, the next night, when Zhao Wei came to Wang Xiao's house, he saw a man in a leather jacket standing at the door, looking around. Zhao Wei instantly understood that something had happened to Wang Xiao!
However, at this time, Zhao Wei was also difficult to ride the tiger, and if he turned around and left, it was likely to arouse the vigilance of the Kuomintang agents. After thinking for a moment, Zhao Wei naturally walked to the door, took the initiative to talk to the man wearing a leather jacket, and reported a fake address, asking the other party if he knew.
When the agent heard it, he didn't suspect anything, and when Zhao Wei was just a passerby, he waved away Zhao Wei impatiently.
At this time, Zhao Wei had completely lost contact with the organization, and comrades related to him had been arrested one after another, and there were only two choices in front of him:
First, take advantage of the fact that no one has come to catch themselves, quickly escape, and find an opportunity to contact the Party organization;
Second, venture back to Shenyang, if you are not exposed, then continue to lurk, because the intelligence work in your position is too important.
When his heart was in turmoil, Zhao Wei suddenly remembered what Wang Shijian had said to him: "We must believe in comrades, and we must never leave our jobs unless we have to." ”
So Zhao Wei immediately made a decision and returned to Shenyang to find out.
Of course, before returning to Shenyang, Zhao Wei did not forget his "purpose" of coming to Beiping, he made a special trip to the North Parallel, handed over the "Northeast Key Defense Plan" to the mailroom, and let them make a receipt. The reason why he did not report to Chiang Kai-shek in person was because Chiang Kai-shek was not in Beiping at this time.
After returning to Shenyang, in order to find out whether he had been exposed, Zhao Wei did not go directly back to his residence, but went to his girlfriend's house to inquire whether anyone had recently looked for him. If you have looked for it, then you are likely to be exposed; if not, then you are most likely not exposed.
After learning that no one had ever looked for him, Zhao Wei felt that he should not have been exposed. However, for the sake of prudence, he called the Operations Section of the General Staff Office and prepared to probe again.
Who knew that after the phone was connected, a person who claimed to be the new "Chief Lu" answered the phone and asked Zhao Wei in an urgent tone: "Where are you, why don't you come back to work?" ”
This sentence immediately aroused Zhao Wei's vigilance, the subordinate was on a business trip, and when he returned, he was directly urged by his superiors to go to work and asked about his whereabouts.
Zhao Wei knew that he was exposed, but in order to stabilize the other party, he deliberately replied: "I just got off the plane, I have a fever, and now I am resting at my fiancée's house." ”
After putting down the phone, Zhao Wei immediately moved to the old city. When he arrived in the Old Town, he called his girlfriend's house again.
As a result, after the connection, the voice on the phone was not the voice of the girlfriend, but "Chief Lu".
At this point, Zhao Wei was completely sure that he was exposed. And this so-called "Chief Lu" was the Kuomintang agent who came to arrest him.
Listening to "Chief Luke" repeatedly asked: "The chief of staff has an urgent matter to find you, ask me to drive to pick you up, where are you?" Zhao Wei casually made up a few lies, and quickly began the road of escape.
Zhao Wei knew that after crossing the Prince River, he would go to the Liberated Area, and then he would be safe. Because of the urgency of the situation, he did not have time to change his clothes, and he was still wearing the uniform of a Kuomintang major and set off.
In this way, Zhao Wei traveled all the way, during which he also encountered Kuomintang sentries, but he was in a hurry to cope with the past.
It was not until the morning of October 26 that he finally arrived at the Liberated Areas and encountered the wandering posts of our army. Hence the scene at the beginning of this article.
After his identity was confirmed by the Party Central Committee, Zhao Wei was quickly sent to the Northeast Liaodong Branch and received by Xiao Jinguang, commander of the Liaodong Branch. Chief Xiao Jinguang highly affirmed Zhao Wei's intelligence work and comforted him.
In November, Zhao Wei was again assigned to work at the Dalian Intelligence Office to continue the revolutionary cause.
After the founding of new China, Zhao Wei served in the national intelligence agency until his retirement in 1981.
