Qian Liqun: The biggest problem in education is that everyone does not read

There is general despair about education. The illness of education in China is no longer a matter of concept, but of interests. Among them, the biggest problem in education is that even teachers do not read books. If we want to promote educational reform, we can also consider starting with organizing book clubs. Organize a book club among the teachers first, and the principal should also participate as an ordinary reader!

What is education? It is the principal who loves to read and the teacher who loves to read, leading the students to read together. It's that simple. Teachers start by changing the classroom, and principals start by changing the school.

Over the years, we have made education more and more complicated and confusing. It's time to go back to basics and back to common sense.

What is education for? Ordinary people have one of the most simple sayings: when children go to school, they "go to school." Reading, that's the key. Guiding students to read is the fundamental responsibility of education.

The biggest problem in our current education is that everyone does not read, teachers do not read, students do not read; in other words, teachers only read teaching reference books, students only read books related to film and television, and there is no free reading space and time in schools.

Now, we want to restore the common sense of education, that is, to recreate the conditions, environment and atmosphere for free reading.

In my opinion, to run a good education, three conditions are needed:

The first is to have a good principal. An important quality of a good principal is that he likes to read.

There must also be good teachers. The first thing a good principal has to do is to find and train a group of good teachers. What is a good teacher? There should be three loves: love of education, love of students, love of reading.

Also have a good library. There should not only be books related to the exam, but also classic masterpieces from ancient and modern China and abroad, and good books suitable for children to read.

Qian Liqun: The biggest problem in education is that everyone does not read

Now is the age of the Internet, and there should be computer equipment in the library. Even if it is difficult to do so now, we must create conditions and improve network equipment in the future. You know, the Internet will be the main way of life and learning of the younger generation, lagging behind in this regard, will lag behind everywhere.

What is education? It is the principal who loves to read and the teacher who loves to read, leading the students to read together. It's that simple. But it is not easy to do it.

What is primary and secondary education for? There are also three: one is to cultivate students' interest in reading; the second is to teach students good reading methods; the third is to develop the habit of reading. If these three points are done, students will study for a lifetime and benefit endlessly.

In addition to guiding students to read paper books, it is also necessary to create conditions to guide students to use the Internet to learn.

Students should also be guided to read the living book and big book of "life". It is necessary to guide students to understand the land under their feet, the culture of the land and the fathers and fellow countrymen. In the long-term historical practice, the people in each place have found a production mode and way of life suitable for survival in their own homeland, and formed a corresponding local culture and local knowledge.

Our education, especially rural education, should compile local teaching materials, set up local courses, guide students to learn local culture and local knowledge, and thus establish a spiritual connection with the land that nurtures themselves. In the future, when students grow up, they will have their own roots wherever they go.

Through reading, they have developed reading interests, methods and habits; and through the study of local knowledge, they have taken root in their own homes, thus laying a solid foundation for the development of students' lives: a foundation for lifelong learning and a foundation for lifelong spiritual development. With these two foundations, no matter what you encounter in the future, you can calmly deal with it. By cultivating these two foundations, our basic education will be conscientious and responsible.

Why don't I talk about education? Frankly speaking, I am very familiar with education, and I feel very strongly that the contradiction between our pursuits and what we can do is really too great. Although I am very desperate for education in general, I see hope when I see the first-line teachers, and there is a "volunteer" who makes me see hope.

Such a group, how should we do things? I gradually developed an idea that I called "quiet existential change."

Qian Liqun: The biggest problem in education is that everyone does not read

We can start with ourselves, starting with changing our own existence and the existence around us, the teacher starts by changing the classroom, and the principal starts by changing the school. There is certainly hope for like-minded people to come together to change our educational existence. So what does it mean to change one's own educational existence? I call it quiet existential reform, in layman's terms, I don't play with you, I play with myself.

Under the existing education system, we will jointly open a second education. We have a common educational philosophy, and we can do things together according to our educational philosophy. But there is a premise, do not think that I can achieve any kind of effect with hard work, to have a clear understanding, to save one counts one. Teacher don't think about making the whole class listen to you, it's impossible.

First, we must have sober estimates, fully estimate and awareness of our limitations, and do not have the illusion that through individual efforts or through the efforts of a group of people, we can change the face of our education, but I can change them partially.

This is not an era of great achievements, but we can "do something small", and if we try to "do something", it will be very good, it will be very remarkable. We have to do it quietly little by little. In the process of helping your child, you yourself have changed, and you feel that your life force is valuable.

Second, there is a difference between our agencyism and your agencyism, that we think we can change the world, that we have the spirit of infinite sacrifice, that we burn ourselves to light up others. But you think that burning yourself first is talking big, and I'm doing it because I'm living happy, I feel meaningful, and I'm going to be low-key idealistic.

There is faith behind idealism, and I myself have three major beliefs:

The first is to believe that human nature is good, and that there are seeds of goodness in the heart of every child. From the perspective of human nature, human nature is both good and evil. Good education is to promote good and suppress evil, and bad education is to promote evil and suppress good. Be full of faith in human nature.

The second is to be confident in the child's childhood and adolescence. At this stage, he has curiosity, a desire to learn, and he has this desire in himself. Whether a person has good memories of childhood has a great impact on his life. Our children now, especially in the countryside, have no joy at all in their childhood. The biggest problem in our education is that it deprives children of the freedom to live. The first deprives the child of curiosity, the second deprives the child of affection, and the third deprives the child of happiness.

The third is to have faith in education itself. I have always believed that education is idealistic thinking, education is different from other work, there is no idealism, and it is fundamentally incompatible with education.

Qian Liqun: The biggest problem in education is that everyone does not read

Although what we do is not supported by other aspects, I think what we do is in line with human nature, in line with the requirements of children, and in line with the nature of education. We do a good job will affect the child's life, you do well, naturally someone to learn from you, or participate in. I have a lot of confidence in volunteer organizations. After doing a good job, first of all, our influence is limited, and second, we must see that the influence gradually expands.

If everyone gets together to do it, there will be hope. History is a synergy. First change yourself, and then reform the status quo around you, and when you gather, it will play a very big role.

Finally, there is another suggestion: if we want to promote educational reform, we can also consider starting with organizing book clubs. Now there are book clubs organized among teachers, and principals participate as ordinary readers. Regularly read a book together, read and discuss, not only educational books, but also literary, social, and historical books.

Reading one by one, a certain consensus will be formed, and then everyone will discuss and do some things about educational reform and rural construction, and combine reading with practice.

In this process, the backbone of the school's teaching will gradually be formed, so that gradual accumulation will naturally form a reading atmosphere in the school. I call it "Quiet Educational Existence Reform." Quietly, literally, bit by bit, and everyone can do it, depending on whether you have a heart.
