On October 27, the 100th anniversary of Yan Fu's death was held in Fuzhou. Yan Fu's third-generation nephew Sun Haoran, his wife Ms. Tian Dongmei, Yan Bingrong, Yan Clan's relatives Qinting Fuzhou representatives, Suoma Xiansheng Agricultural Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd. representatives, Jingyun Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd., Fuzhou Sanshan Poetry Society, Fuzhou Sunshine Poetry Society, Fujian Starlight Magazine, Fujian Hailai Minsheng Yanfu Academy and other responsible persons attended the event.
At 11:00 a.m., the emcee announced the start of the commemorative meeting, and Mr. Chen Haoran and his wife, Ms. Tian Dongmei, led all the guests to observe a minute of silence to the ancestors. At the scene of the event, Chen Haoran read the "Sacrifice Words".
The participants bowed to Yan Fuxiang. Li Linzhou, president of the Fuzhou Sanshan Poetry Society; Gong Yi, executive director of the Yanfu Academy of People's Livelihood in Hai'an, Fujian Province; Lin Xiaoying, president of the Fuzhou Sunshine Poetry Society; Daliang, executive deputy director of the Fuzhou Sunshine Poetry Society; and representatives of the Yan clan of the Qinting Yan clan spoke at the meeting, commemorating Yan Fu's glorious life, pursuing the auspicious light of Yan Fu's ancestors, carrying forward the spirit of patriotism, and expounding Yan Fu's magnificent historical merits.
Yan Fu was a bourgeois Enlightenment thinker, translator and educator in the late Qing Dynasty, one of the "advanced Chinese" in China's modern history who searched for truth from Western countries, born on January 8, 1854, and died on October 27, 1921 at the age of 67 in his residence in Langguan Lane, Fuzhou. Yan Fu graduated from the Fujian School of Shipping Administration and the Royal Naval Academy, and served as the general office of the Tang Translation Bureau of Beijing Normal University, the president of Shanghai Fudan Public School, and the editor-in-chief of the Famous Dictionary of the Qing Dynasty Academy.
Yan Fu systematically introduced Western democracy and science to China, translated the "Theory of Heavenly Speech", and founded the "National News Daily". Yan Fu put forward the standard of "letter, reach, and elegance" for translation, which had a profound impact on China's translation work. (Lin Ying)
