Mu yield 1586.86 kg! On October 26, with the announcement of the double-cropping rice yield measurement results of the Nanfan Public Test Base in Yazhou District (Batou) of Sanya City, Hainan Province, Hainan achieved the goal of 1500 kg of double-cropping rice per mu, creating the highest local double-cropping rice yield record.

In 2021, the hybrid rice double-cropping 1500 kg per mu research demonstration project led by Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid rice", was implemented in many southern provinces. On the 26th, the results of the late rice production test at the Nanfan Public Experimental Base in Yazhou District (Batou) showed that the average yield of late rice at the test demonstration site was 660.36 kg per mu, plus the average yield of early rice measured in May this year was 926.5 kg per mu, and the yield of double-cropping mu reached 1586.86 kg.
"The key research goals proposed by Academician Yuan Longping before his death have been realized in Hunan and Hainan, indicating that China's double-cropping rice still has the potential to increase production." Wang Feng, head of the yield measurement expert group and chief scientist of the Rice Research Institute of the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said that in the next step, the experimental demonstration sites will summarize the successful experience and integrate and promote high-yield varieties and high-yield cultivation technologies to the vast number of farmers.
While tackling the target of 1500 kg of double-cropping rice per mu, the test demonstration site also undertakes the scientific research task of screening and evaluating hybrid rice varieties. Tu Shengbin, the technical leader of the experimental demonstration site and an associate researcher at the Chengdu Institute of Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced that Hainan and southeast Asian rice producing countries have similar latitudes and similar climates, and researchers plant different varieties of rice and comprehensively evaluate and analyze, select varieties that are more suitable for tropical climate planting and strong resistance, and will cooperate with foreign scientific research institutions and enterprises to carry out demonstration planting and promotion.
