The medal awarding ceremony was presided over by Sun Chengyong and Song Xuefeng delivered a speech. Song Xuefeng said that the ceremony of the medal was to pay tribute to professor Fabio Loka's outstanding contributions to the scientific and technological cooperation between China and Italy.
Song Xuefeng pointed out that science and technology have promoted economic and social development, and the transnational cooperation between scientists from China and Italy has taken a major step forward for the development and exchanges between the two countries in the economic, cultural, scientific, and technological fields. Italy was one of the first European countries to carry out scientific and technological cooperation with New China. Over the past 40 years, Sino-Italian scientific and technological cooperation has achieved fruitful results, and bilateral relations have entered a new stage. This contains the painstaking efforts of Professor Fabio Loka and his colleagues. "Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy, and we wish Professor Fabio Loca good health, new breakthroughs in the field of science, and new contributions to the development of China-Italy relations."
Song Xuefeng presented Fabio Loca with a medallion.
Fabio Loca said it was a great honour to receive this commemorative medal. Italy and China are both countries with ancient historical civilizations and friends of friendly cooperation. Scientific and technological cooperation has not only promoted economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries (such as the Belt and Road Initiative), but also enabled more friendly exchanges between the two peoples. Fabio Loca pointed out that China's level of science and technology has developed by leaps and bounds in the past 15 years. "At the beginning of the cooperation, we helped China to cooperate in some scientific and technological projects. But now we admire China so much that we desperately want to know why China's technology has made such great progress in a short period of time. ”
Fabio Loca was interviewed by the media.
He also said that he hopes to bring some European technologies to China and promote them, and then bring some experience after the promotion and application back to Europe, hoping that through such "one back and one back", it can help Europe to move forward in the field of scientific research and application, and also hope that some countries in Europe can learn from China's innovative ideas.
It is understood that Fabio Loka once served as the president of the European Association of Earth Sciences and Engineering and won the China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award in 2013. As the chief scientist in the field of radar remote sensing at the European Space Agency, he promoted the leap forward development of radar interferometry remote sensing technology, promoted the research application in many fields, opened a new stage in the development of this technology, and still leads the research frontier in this field.

Since 2004, Fabio Loka has been the head of the European side of the first, second and third phases of the "Dragon" program of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the European Space Agency, committed to the application and promotion of radar interferometry technology in the field of Earth observation and earth science in China, and carried out cooperative research and personnel training with Wuhan University, the Chinese Academy of Forestry and the Shanghai Institute of Geological Survey, giving in-depth and meticulous guidance to the Chinese side. It has also led a group of European scientists to actively participate in the sino-European cooperation program in the field of Earth observation, which has played an important role in promoting the application and promotion of related technologies in China.
