One dog and one house, 170 police dogs are placed alone in their own small world.
The aim is to prevent them from pinching each other. More importantly, cultivate their self-confidence.
In a ten-square-meter independent kennel, they seem to be the deserved king.
At present, there are 8 different breeds of police dogs, including Rottweiler, Springer, Labrador and German Shepherd, including 30 breeding dogs, 90 working dogs and 50 other trained dogs.
Yang Wenfeng, deputy captain of the police dog brigade, said that each trainer will partner 2 to 3 police dogs, and in addition to taking police dogs for special training on weekdays, they are also responsible for feeding and bathing police dogs, which can be described as "both father and mother".
Bathe the police dog
Most police dogs hate the feeling of being tied to one place, but they like the big red house with a bath machine installed in the base.
Dogs do not have sweat glands, which can be described as naturally afraid of heat, and it is even more painful for police dogs who often do training. At the beginning of the construction of the base, taking into account the health status of the police dogs and the characteristics of heat fear, the base specially purchased a fully automatic bathing machine.
Standing in the bath, the Labrador Bobo enjoyed itself, and at this time it seemed to be "indisputable", just wanting to quietly accept the 20-minute baptism. The bathing machine provides 35 degrees of constant temperature hot water, equipped with a special bath shampoo and softener for dogs, and the most amazing thing is the machine's own blowing function, "Standing in the bathing machine, the dogs will have a rare quiet." Yang Wenfeng said with a smile.
Good stay and good food. Each police dog eats 2 meals a day, one meal in the morning is dog food, and in the afternoon it is a liquid food made of chicken and beef, and all recipes are uniformly adjusted by professional nutritionists.
On the treadmill lined up, several police dogs are spitting out their long tongues and running the treadmill. These treadmills are specially customized for police dogs, in order to cope with the high-intensity work on weekdays, physical fitness is a compulsory course for every police dog, "Police dogs run, at least 10 kilometers to start." There are always some surprises. It's like 7 years ago, 43-year-old Liu Zhisheng met a Springer dog that fell to the ground.
That year coincided with the delivery of China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, and Liu Zhisheng named it an aircraft carrier.
Not every puppy has the potential to become a police dog. After the puppy grows to 3 months, the personality will gradually take shape, and the physical potential will initially appear. As one of the most experienced trainers in the police dog base, Liu Zhisheng is always accustomed to observing their eyes first when in contact with puppies, because the eyes often reflect their personality and aura, and those with stronger aura can often succeed.
"Perseverance and spirit, when I saw those eyes, I knew that the little guy was not simple." Liu Zhisheng's judgment is correct, in just one year, the aircraft carrier not only has a strong physique, but also shows an unparalleled talent for searching and explosion. At all kinds of large-scale conferences and activities, it can always be seen that it is a healthy figure, and when the national leaders come to Han, it has also participated in the security inspection and explosion search work many times.
In September 2016, the G20 Hangzhou Summit, Liu Zhisheng and the "aircraft carrier" ushered in the biggest challenge. They were sent to the most core infield to be responsible for the on-site search. Heads of state gathered, zero error in the search is the bottom line that police dogs and trainers must adhere to, but in addition to safety, how to ensure that the on-site layout is not destroyed is another important link that cannot be ignored.

The "quiet" of police dogs is exchanged for a lot of training, and before becoming police dogs, they also need to cut off their tails to prevent their tails from affecting the search process or destroying the scene.
Liu Zhisheng also remembered that when he took the aircraft carrier to search for the explosion in the courtyard where the fuehrers were about to eat, all the tableware and decorations had been arranged, and if the police dogs were too excited during the search, resulting in damage to related items, there was no time to remedy it in a short time. In the end, the "aircraft carrier" achieved zero errors.
Breaking the window paper relationship can quickly heat up
Some first sights are not so beautiful.
Across an iron fence, The Little Black, a German Shepherd dog gasping for breath in the kennel, first roared in bursts, and then stared dead at Liao Yiming, who had just arrived, as if to tell with his eyes that it was best not to go near his territory.
Unlike Liu Zhisheng, although he graduated from the police academy, Liao Yiming did not major in police dog technology. He thought to himself that he was a newcomer who had never been exposed to police dogs, so he should first make contact with the smaller puppies. But when the half-human-tall Little Black stood in front of him, he stayed where he was, and at one point imagined the funny scene of himself being chased and bitten by Little Black.
At first, Liao Yiming subconsciously maintained a sufficient safe distance from Xiao Hei. For example: hesitant to cross the threshold of the kennel, across the iron fence and the small black cover almost...
"A lot of new people like me still have to push themselves in the end." Liao Yiming forgot that from the first few days, he took the food hard into Xiao Hei's kennel, Xiao Hei did not have the imaginary swooping bite, nor did he roar to warn, but surprisingly quiet, he tried to crouch down to make himself as close as possible to Xiao Hei, put the food in the palm of his hand, let Xiao Hei feel his own smell.
Breaking the window paper, the relationship between Xiao Hei and Liao Yiming quickly warmed up. Once, when Liao Yiming was joking with his colleagues, he was pushed and shoved, and the little black gesture in his eyes was about to pounce on the other party, but fortunately, Liao Yiming stepped forward in time to stop it, and only then did he persuade the little black on the gas head. The relationship became familiar, Liao Yiming began to train Xiao Hei step by step, starting from the most basic sitting, standing, and lying passwords, and gradually improving the tacit understanding between the two sides. For police dogs, similar obedience subject training can only be regarded as a primary course, and when the academic success is completed, the training instructor will subdivide them into different specialties such as explosives, tracking, and anti-drug according to their different characteristics, and carry out targeted training.
The more obstacles run
Taking the explosive dog as an example, in the early stage of training, the trainer will use things that the police dog is interested in, such as throwing a tennis ball into the grass, or hiding it in a specific location, so that the police dog will gradually get used to the "search" command. Then, the original ordinary tennis ball is replaced with a tennis ball with the smell of explosives, and gradually transitions to the search training of different types of explosives.
In 2016, the police received a report that someone had placed explosives in a high-end hotel in Wuhan, liao Yiming rushed to the scene with Xiao Hei, and because the specific location of the explosives was not clear, the staff had to evacuate all the customers first. The hotel has dozens of floors, and any corner may be the place where the explosives are placed, when the base sent a total of 7 police dogs to expand the scope of the search. Liao Yiming took Xiao Hei up the stairs from the 1st floor and searched each room floor by floor until he had walked 27 floors on foot, which eliminated the danger.
Spend more time with police dogs than with family members

The police dog, named Wolf Ao, is a German shepherd dog, and the trainer Zhang Chao is the first auxiliary police officer in the base.
When the wolf was young, he had a bad stomach and often diarrhea, Zhang Chao, like a child, got up early every day to feed it, other police dogs only ate 2 meals a day, but the wolf had to eat 4 meals. In order to strengthen the physique of wolf Ao, running has also become a compulsory course in training, at first the naughty wolf Ao needs Zhang Chao to run, and slowly Zhang Chao found that it was difficult for him to keep up with the pace of Wolf Ao, and he had no choice but to ride a bicycle to accompany him.
Zhang Chao's dormitory, less than 200 meters away from Wolf Ao's kennel, in Zhang Chao's eyes, this big man standing half a person tall is his closest partner. Five days a week are soaked in the base, and now Zhang Chao accompanies Wolf Ao's time, even more than his family, hard work in exchange for the affirmation of work, Wolf Ao has played an important role in the detection of important cases many times, and Zhang Chao has been awarded the Third Class Honorary Medal of the National Auxiliary Police.
In 2016, a theft case occurred in a small area, Zhang Chao intervened in the investigation with Wolf Ao, according to the smell of the thief, as well as the traces of the escape, Wolf Ao successfully locked the escape route of the 2 suspects, providing key information for the police to solve the case. This summer, in a village bay in Huangpi, a man slashed his parents and fled, because there was no monitoring probe in the village, the case did not go well at first. Wolf Ao used the footprints left by the man when he fled as a source of sniffing, and found that he escaped to a pond in the village, and there were traces of water on the side of the pond, and finally the police went around to the other side of the pond and successfully captured him along the escape path.
Before becoming a trainer, Zhang Chao had been working in Guangdong, "able to meet Wolf Ao thanks to his brother Zhang Xiao." He said.
Due to the increase in the number of police dogs, in recent years, the base has begun to recruit auxiliary police. In 2014, Zhang Xiao, then deputy commander of the first squadron of the police dog brigade, told his younger brother Zhang Chao the news of the base's recruitment of the first batch of auxiliary police, and the brothers became comrades under the same roof.
Compared with his younger brother who was halfway out of the family, as early as childhood, Zhang Xiao became interested in police dogs because of a TV series called "Police Dog Carl". After graduating from the police dog major of the China Criminal Police College, Zhang Xiao joined the police dog base, and after 12 years of police service, he trained a number of excellent police dogs, and twice won the third class of personal merit.
Life is short but they give everything
In a flower-filled clearing, legendary police dogs with outstanding achievements are buried here, which is the "police dog cemetery" opened by the trainers themselves.
Police dogs do not have a long lifespan, but in a limited time, they dedicate their best selves to the country and the people.
Before they were born, they rushed to the front line of anti-drug and explosives countless times, and they were often busy at major international conferences and sports events, sparing no effort in searching and rescue, and fearless when pursuing fugitives. Some of them died on the mission, and some of them worked with the police for dozens of hours continuously in order to search for and rescue the trapped people, and finally collapsed on the post.
Commemoration is for a better inheritance. Yang Wenfeng said that after the death of the police dog, some trainers will keep the name of the police dog and pass on these names until they meet a suitable newborn dog.
The days of forced separation are always particularly difficult, and Liu Zhisheng, who has dealt with police dogs all his life, is the one who feels the most.
Before the aircraft carrier, Liu Zhisheng was accompanied by another Springer Spaniel Stegosaurus for many years. Stegosaurus is 8 years old this year, and years of intense training have caused both of its hind limbs to be paralyzed, and now even normal walking has become a luxury.
Meritorious police dogs are old and have difficulty moving on their hind legs
Talking about the stegosaurus, Liu Zhisheng's words carried a hint of choking. The Stegosaurus of that year was a legendary police dog, and until now, the honor wall of the base still has the meritorious deeds of the Stegosaurus. In August 2013, a sudden case broke out in a community in Jiang'an District, the case was confusing, and Stegosaurus found the crime scene within an hour, and the case was finally successfully solved.
The glorious past is still vivid, but Liu Zhisheng has to face the reality that the life of a police dog is too short.
"Their whole life may only be our 8 or 9 years." Liu Zhisheng said that because of a lot of training, the general police dog to 8 years old, the body function began to deteriorate, in addition, a long time use of the nose to inhale dust and harmful substances, will also cause great harm to the body, so many police dogs to 8 years old, began to decline.
Some even left early before they were 8 years old. Liu Zhisheng's former partner Xiaolong, in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, because of the excellent completion of the search and explosion work, helped Liu Zhisheng to establish the second class of national personal honors, but only a year later, Xiaolong's body took a sharp turn and unfortunately passed away.
Every parting is too difficult, and Liu Zhisheng said that he can only cherish the present. Now, every few days, I have to go to the stegosaurus kennel, take it with me with mobility, bask in the sun, and touch its hair that is no longer soft.
It is gratifying that every retired meritorious dog like An stegosaurus was eventually left in the base to spend his old age.
As the sun sets, Liu Zhisheng sends the stegosaurus back to the kennel, waiting for the sunrise the next day, and he is also waiting for the next little dragon to appear.
