The works of the three local directors will represent Singapore at this year's new Singapore International Film Festival. They are:
K. Rajagopal, who accompanied him on his magnum opus, A Yellow Bird;
The late director Abdul Nizam, whose work will be screened in retrospectives;
Gladys Ng, the opening film of the festival, was directed by him.
K. Rajagopal's exhibition is "A Yellow Bird", which is the debut of an Indian-Singaporean director, he has made many short films before, and his control over the camera is very strong, the actors are well trained, and the Chinese actor Huang Lu is very prominent in the film. The film is about a man who has just completed his sentence and returns home unpopular with his mother, who is eager to find his wife and daughter and wants to start a new family, only to learn that his past actions have caused them irreversible tragedy. This made him determined to get them out at any cost. The film was shortlisted for the 69th Cannes Film Festival. Rajagopa is no stranger to SGIFF judges, who won the Judges' Special Prize for three consecutive years from 1995 to 1997. The three winning short films are: "I Can't Sleep Tonight," "The Glare" and "Absenc." Meanwhile, it will compete nine other Asian feature films for four screens: Best Film, Best Director, Best Performance and Special Nominee.
Nizam's work has always been part of previous festivals and has always been an important part of previous film festivals. This year, SGIFF will also be exhibiting films that review him. SGIFF is part of the Singapore Media Arts Festival, which will be held from 23 November to 4 December this year and is organised by the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore.
