Sichuan Zigong City is known as the "hometown of dinosaurs", and there is a saying in Zigong folk: "There are many dinosaurs in Sichuan, and Zigong is a nest". Recently, the public found dinosaur fossils in Dashanpu, Zigong City, after expert investigation and full preparation, Zigong Dinosaur Museum professionals excavated this dinosaur fossil, and by 18:00 on the 23rd, this dinosaur fossil was finally completely separated from the surrounding rocks. Many excavators at the scene worked together to lift this dinosaur fossil weighing about 300 to 400 kilograms and transport the fossil safely to the Zigong Dinosaur Museum.
Jiang Shan, deputy director of the research department of the Zigong Dinosaur Museum, said that from the current skeletal form, it can be preliminarily judged that it is the thigh bone of a large sauropod dinosaur, that is, the femur. Judging from this length, the restored head may be 16-17 meters long, which is similar to the individual size of the Emei Dragon and The Dragon found in Zigong Dashanpu.
Jiang Shan told reporters that in the area of more than 4,000 square kilometers of Zigong, 161 dinosaur fossil points have been excavated so far, which is very rare in China and even in the world. The dinosaur fossil point excavated this time is less than 1 kilometer away from the Zigong Dinosaur Museum directly built on the "Dashanpu Dinosaur Fossil Group Site", which will not bring new discoveries to the research of the Dashanpu Dinosaur Fossil Group, which still needs to be explored in the next step.
It is understood that the Zigong Dinosaur Museum has properly protected the giant fossils excavated this time, and will organize geological and paleontological experts to conduct in-depth research and research on the fossils as soon as possible, which will play a positive role in enriching the fossil types of the Zigong Dashanpu dinosaur group and in-depth study of the geological structure and paleontological living environment at that time.
