Among the four monks in the early Qing Dynasty, Hongren's artistic career was the shortest, but his legacy was deeply rooted in public opinion, and his feelings of home and country were revealed everywhere. Hongren (1610-1664), commonly known as Jiang, was known as Tao, and the character Liuqi. Teenager lonely and poor sexual fetish, Anhui Shexian people, good at poetry, mother to filial piety. Since childhood, he has loved literature and painted all his life. Originally a xiucai at the end of the Ming Dynasty, in the second year of Shunzhi (1645), after the defeat of the rebel army in Shexian County, Zhu Yujian (1602-1646), the King of Tang, established the Southern Ming Longwu Dynasty in Fuzhou, driving him to leave his hometown for Fujian. The following year, Fuzhou fell, and he subsequently (1647) cut his hair in Wuyi Mountain and became a monk, with the legal name Hongren, the character Gradual River, the number plum blossom gugu, and converted to the ancient waterway boat (1585-1666), when he was thirty-eight years old. Since then, he has traveled all over the world, and later returned to Shexian County, living in the western suburbs of Taiping Xingguo Temple and Wuming Temple, often wandering between Huangshan and Baiyue, and often have contacts with local Jia Ru, immersing himself in Buddhist studies and painting creation, poetry and painting, and there is no shortage of works that feel nostalgic for the world, cherishing the homeland.
Hongren was the founder of the "Xin'an School". He, Together with Zha Shibiao, Sun Yi, Wang Lirui and other four people, were known as the "Four Greats of Xin'an" in the early Qing Dynasty, also known as the "Four Greats of Haiyang". Zhang Geng said in the "Records of Paintings of the National Dynasty": "Xin'an painted many Zongqing (Ni Zhan), Gai gradually taught Dao Xianluye," and the history of painting is called Hongren, Jiaquan, ShiTao, and Bada as the "four monks" in the painting world. Represents the innovative faction.
In the late Ming Dynasty, the hui merchant forces rose, they were good at literary and artistic activities, and the collection was very rich, and Huang Binhong's research said: "Fengnan Wu uses Qing to hide Ni Huang is the most refined." Later artists such as Huang Binhong and Zhang Daqian were also inspired by it and had a far-reaching influence.
Hongren got the tradition of observing nature and the rules of law from Song Dynasty painting, and at the same time absorbed the spirit of the Yuan people who attached importance to Shen Yun and fun, using pen and ink to light and vain, and full of changes, and finally formed a clean and simple, pure and pure artistic style, and there was also a painter monk with great artistic spirituality in the world.
His paintings represent the peak level of a true mountain forest man, and there are very few who can match it.

Gradually, there are few works and rare treasures in the world, and this volume is one of them.
