The sign was really easy to use, and after a while he found 3 old classmates of the Class of 71, and everyone took a happy group photo together. This summer, Chaotian Primary School has a new look through the campus micro-transformation, but the 300-year-old banyan trees and campus murals handed down by successive principals have been protected or renovated by the new generation of school leaders. Ma Dingsheng sent a message to the younger brothers and sisters:

Good books should be read hard

As an alumnus of the DPRK Elementary School, Ma Dingsheng, a famous military critic and the son of the Red Line Woman, specially recommended and presented books that had a profound impact on his growth and presented them to the teachers and students of his alma mater, hoping that the students and sisters would accompany the books, strengthen their faith, temper their will, and grow up healthily. In the exchange with the primary school brothers and sisters, Ma Dingsheng said that he hoped that in today's era of information explosion, students should choose more good books to read, and books of various categories such as literature, history, and philosophy can be read.

Mr. Ma Dingsheng, a well-known alumnus, interacted with the students

"Can't elementary school students read deep books?" not necessarily! I started reading books from preschool and didn't need to understand them thoroughly. When you read famous works such as "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", "Water Margin", and "Journey to the West", you feel that you can't understand or have questions, it is the time to increase your knowledge. Ma Dingsheng said.

He told the children that sometimes the author was very naughty and had a hard time talking, so he would bend the bend to tell the story, read from no words, indescribable, but can be god. When you can have intercourse with the author when you read, it means that you have reached a certain realm in reading. Good books should be read hard, can not read the dictionary, cultural knowledge and mental state can be improved. At the ceremony, he sang the Cantonese song "Boys for the Country", which was thick and sonorous, which triggered the applause of the whole hall.

"Whole person education" leads the century-old school

Since the establishment of Guangzhou Tongwenguan in 1864, Chaotian Primary School has been called the "oldest" public primary school in Guangdong. The fine tradition of "daring to be the first" in Guangzhou Tongwenguan has influenced the educational status of Chao Xiao in every historical period in Guangzhou, and as a pilot and forerunner of Guangzhou's educational reform, Chao Xiao has played a leading role in teaching and research and taking the lead in teaching and reform, and radiated to other schools inside and outside Guangzhou and even the whole country.

Principal Kong Hong introduced that five years ago, the school determined that the 155-year educational historical development of Chaotian Primary School is the road of "whole-person education", "one can not be less, all-round development, and all-round development"; the growth of Chaotian alumni in the past confirms that chaotian's educational characteristics are the five education characteristics - "Mingde, Yizhi, Physical Fitness, Perfection, Quyren" as the core content of the "whole-person education" road. Not only grasp the subject knowledge, but also pay attention to the development of students' quality, through the new curriculum of Hony Day to train students' willpower, cultivate students' learning ability and practical ability.

In terms of talent training methods, whether it is the Guangzhou Tongwenguan period or the later Chaoxiao period, the concept of "whole-person education" that has been handed down over the past 155 years to respect individuality, affirm value and self-confidence has been advancing with the times and constantly enriching the connotation. After winning the first prize of the teaching achievements of Guangzhou And Guangdong Province, the teaching achievements of "Exploring and Practicing the "Experiential Learning Circle" Based on the Independent Development of Students" won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, the highest award in the education category, in 2018, which is the most powerful affirmation of "whole-person education".

Long history: founded in the third year of Tongzhi

Chaotian Primary School in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou has a long history, and its predecessor was the Guangzhou Tongwenguan founded by the Qing Dynasty government in the third year of Tongzhi (1864).

At that time, Li Hongzhang, the governor of Jiangsu, the leader of the Western affairs faction, wrote a letter requesting that after Beijing, the tongwen museum be opened in Shanghai and Guangzhou. Kuk Jitai and Yan Duan (the governor of Liangguang) were asked to select from the army stationed in Guangzhou, talents with intelligent qualifications, aged between 14 and 20, who were fluent in Manchu and Chinese, and to be taught by the Westerners and the Guozijian students who were both excellent in character and learning. After more than a year of preparation, the Guangzhou Tongwen Museum was finally completed and opened on June 23, 1864 (May 30, 1864). The site of the museum was in Chaotian Street in Guangzhou at that time, and it is now chaotian primary school.

At that time, the number of students who could enter the Guangzhou Tongwenguan was very small, such as only 20 regular students in the first phase, and 5 attached students, the age of students was 14 to 20 years old, the study system was 3 years, and the main subjects were English, Chinese and arithmetic. Later, with the expansion of Sino-foreign relations, in 1879, two new museums were added, French and German, each with 10 students, and the school system was also closer to the Beijing Normal Division and the Literary Museum, increasing to 8 years.

The content of learning includes: learning to read, write and spell in the first year; adding grammar, conversation and translating sentences in addition to the second year of reading; learning world history in the third year, practicing telegraph translation, etc.; and learning arithmetic, algebra, and translating official documents in the fourth year. From the fifth grade to the 8th grade, many mathematical, physical and chemical courses were added, such as physics, chemistry, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, as well as mechanics, nautical calculations, public law, astronomy, geography, and elective courses such as physiology and anatomy. Later, the Japanese And Russian Language Museum was opened.

"Weishui History": Holds three "first" titles

Guangzhou Tongwenguan is also the first foreign Chinese school in Guangdong, but also the first modernized new school in Guangzhou and the first major foreign affairs undertaking in Guangzhou by the Qing Dynasty Western school. Since the tongwenkan is based on actual needs, and pays great attention to the combination of learning and use, students often participate in the translation of foreign language telegrams, documents and books during their studies.

According to the regulations of the Qing Dynasty Prime Minister Yamen, students of the Tongwenguan in Guangzhou often went to Beijing to take the examination, and those who passed were given the title of official translators. In 1867, the Guangzhou general Qingchun led 6 students to Beijing to take the exam, and all of them were awarded official positions. In 1871, Prime Minister Yamen asked the Guangzhou Tongwenguan to send 14 students to the Beijing Tongwenguan to continue their studies, while accompanying government envoys abroad, or interning at embassies abroad.

According to expert research, there are many students in Guangzhou Tongwenguan who have made achievements in the history of modern Sino-foreign relations. For example, the first student, Zuo Binglong, was the first consul general of the Qing government in British Singapore and was re-elected for three consecutive terms. During his 9 years in office, he has made important contributions in mediating and easing Sino-British relations, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Chinese, and developing normal diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom and Singapore.

In 1905, the Tongwenguan was changed to the Translation Academy, which was also converted into the Manchu Han Eight Flags Higher Primary School. Since 1911, this school with three "first" titles has changed its name many times, and has used Yuecheng Higher Primary School, Guangzhou No. 3 Higher Primary School, Guangzhou No. 53 Primary School, Guangzhou No. 1 Primary School, Huifu District Central Primary School, North District Central Primary School, Jiefang Middle Street No. 1 Primary School, Chaotian Road Primary School, etc. In 1993, it was eventually renamed Chaotian Elementary School.
