Editor's Note
The provincial catfish system germplasm innovation and fry breeding team successfully completed the phased work of breeding spotted catfish on August 4, 2019.
In order to continue to breed the germplasm of the spotted forktail catfish, the scale of seed production of the spotted forktail catfish "Jiangfeng No. 1" fine seed was increased. From June to July this year, during the catfish breeding season, the team selected 424 broodstock of the 2015 class that were physically strong and mature in the Yangzhong base, and designed the breeding scheme according to the family lineage and individual sports species values, and used directional mating to breed in groups.

Class of 2019 G3 core lineage
83 core family groups of the G3 generation of the 2019 class were successfully constructed, including 35 half-siblings, with a total of about 650,000 seedlings. At present, 500 tails/lineage have been preserved and cultivated in separate pools, with a total of 41,500 tails.
Class of 2019
About 130,000 seedlings of the 2019 class expansion group of selective breeding lines were constructed. Some of the seedlings are preserved in the Yangzhong Base and Pukou Base of the Freshwater Fisheries Research Institute of Jiangsu Province, and the remaining seedlings are shared and sent to 2 fine seed preservation enterprises in the province for cultivation to ensure the effective preservation of good seeds. Parents with better individual development are also selected for breeding and production, providing about 350,000 high-quality seedlings for the society.
The development of breeding work has avoided the decline of germplasm resources and provided effective germplasm guarantee and technical support for the development of the spotted forktail catfish industry in our province.
