【Event Introduction】

How should we look at a famous painting in the history of Western art, the first step must be to try to understand what it is expressing, and in the long history of art from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance to modern art, most of the works of art are related to Christian allusions, which have produced various misunderstandings in the process of dissemination, which has set up new obstacles for us to understand Western art, and the dialogue between Chen Danqing and Xiaosheng will remove the first barrier for us to understand Western art.

【Introduction of Guests】

Xiaosheng, surname Xing, originally from Beijing, was born in Shanghai in 1938. He learned calligraphy and painting at an early age and learned foreign languages for a long time. Since 1981, he has specialized in the introduction of foreign art. From 1984 to 1986, he was selected by the state to go to Paris to study and investigate the history of Western art, focusing on medieval art and modern and contemporary art. Later, he was invited to visit many times, and successively went to more than ten countries in Europe and the United States to investigate and lecture, and traveled extensively. In 2000, he was elected a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Spain.

Among the translations of Whistling's extensive introduction to Western culture and art, Western medieval art occupies a special position, especially in the "Whistling • Medieval" series. In view of the special significance of Western medieval art and our diaphragm misunderstanding, Xiaosheng chose this as the first research topic, not only to learn from famous teachers in Paris, read a large number of books and literature, pay special attention to field investigations, in 1984 to the present more than a dozen times to Europe, visit famous places, shoot authentic works, collect a huge amount of first-hand information, while confirming and enriching book knowledge, gain personal feelings, and form an independent opinion of a Chinese scholar. After a long period of work and careful consideration, Whistle dedicated its eight monographs ("The Victory of st. James's Way to the Dynasty", "The Search for the Italian Middle Ages", "the < Bible > on the Pillar", "The icon < the > of revelation", "The Sacred Genealogy of Christianity", "Into the Cathedral", "Compilation of Western Medieval Art", and rodin's translation of "French Cathedral") with the general theme of "Whistling And Medieval", to our readers.

Chen Danqing, born in Shanghai in 1953, from 1970 to 1978, he worked in the countryside of Gannan and northern Jiangsu to settle down, during which he studied painting by himself. In 1978, he entered the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, graduated in 1980, and settled in New York in 1982, where he worked as a freelance painter. He returned to China in 2000 and now lives in Beijing. In his early years, he composed "Tibetan Group Paintings", and in the past ten years, he has composed a juxtaposition series and a book still life series. Amateur writing, published anthologies include: "New York Trivia", "Excess Materials", "Regression Collection", "Regression Collection Sequel", "Abandoned Collection", "Foreign Music in Foreign Countries", "Laughing about Mr. Big", "Ten Years of Returning to China", "Grass Collection", "The Muddy Swamp of Conversation", "The Journey of Ignorance".

More than 500 classic works, nearly 300 Christian allusions, hardcover four-color printing, a book to understand Western art.

In Western Christian countries, there are a group of "holy" figures in many fields such as history, politics, religion, literature and art, which constitute an important carrier of the entire Western culture. However, in several major Western languages, these "holy" names, although each refers to the same person, have different glyphs and pronunciations. The historically formed cultural identity of Western culture under the influence of Christianity is therefore masked by the differences in different national languages. This phenomenon of "people with the same name and different names" has created an astonishing confusion and become a serious obstacle to China's work of introducing and studying Western culture.

"Christian Sacred Genealogy - Multilingual Dictionary of Western Crown "Holy" Names" aims to comprehensively introduce this important group from the perspective of name, reality and phase, in order to solve the three major problems of chaotic translation of character names, difficult to check life deeds, and inexplicable artistic expression in Western culture.

The book contains 290 entries, which are cross-referenced by different names in seven languages, name-to-word, Chinese, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Russian, and the translated names are unified Chinese. Each entry notes its biography of the character, refers to its canon for events, and explains the symbols to provide substantive information under the name. This book selects 544 works of Western art, which not only support the text with images, but also use words to explain.
