In a room of more than 300 square meters in the roasting workshop of Fengle Village in ruoshui Town, 68 sets of insect racks are placed, and on each shelf are several trays, each of which contains about 15 round glass dishes with insects crawling.

"This is the Mianning Breeding Base of Liangshan Prefecture Seven Star Ladybird Breeding Center." Guo Mingquan, director of the Liangshan Prefecture Tobacco Monopoly Bureau, said that the reason for breeding these seven-star ladybirds is to effectively control the biggest pest of tobacco planting - aphids.
It turns out that the seven-star ladybird is the dominant natural enemy of aphids, with a long lifespan, high egg production, and strong ability to kill insects in the field. It has been estimated that the larvae and adults of the elderly ladybird can feed an average of 100 aphids per day.
"Combined with another natural enemy of the smoke aphid, the aphid cocoon bee, we have independently developed a green prevention and control system of 'aphid cocoon bee + seven-star ladybird', which is also the first in Liangshan." Guo Mingquan said that at present, the Mianning base can breed about 1 million seven-star ladybirds a year, and can control aphids for 200,000 mu of tobacco fields. "Generally per acre, we put about 5, labor, packaging, materials and other costs add up to about 5 yuan."
At present, the green prevention and control system of "Aphid Cocoon Peak + Seven Star Ladybird" has achieved 100% coverage in the local area.

After years of research and development, Liangshan Prefecture has realized the large-scale expansion of the seven-star ladybird, and built a scientific and technological achievement transformation model of "technological breakthrough - product production - industrial development - tobacco farmers' income". The local area has built a seven-star ladybird seed preservation base, 3 expansion bases, the annual expansion capacity of 2 million heads, covering the scale of tobacco fields up to 300,000 mu.
Breeding seven-star ladybirds, "treating insects with insects", is a microcosm of the local implementation of green production. As the country's largest comprehensive demonstration area for continuous planting of flue-cured tobacco, in recent years, green prevention and control technology has been vigorously promoted in the local area, such as: the installation of insecticidal lamps, sex attractants, yellow plates, the number of insect mouths has been effectively reduced; the implementation of "one control, two minus three utilization", the use of organic fertilizer instead of chemical fertilizer, tobacco farmers for every 1 ton of organic fertilizer, the company's subsidy fund of 970 yuan, to achieve waste mulch film, drifting plate, pesticide packaging 100% recycling, agricultural non-point source pollution has been effectively curbed.
