Good news! The ecology of the Yangtze River estuary has improved, and the number of fish has increased and the number has increased

On June 23, 167,000 dark-striped oriental puffers were stocked at the mouth of the Yangtze River, marking the completion of the breeding and stocking work in the "Ecological Restoration of the First Phase of the South Trough Waterway Treatment Project of the Yangtze River Estuary". The good news also came at the same time: after 3 years of breeding and stocking, as well as the full implementation of measures such as the ban on fishing, the ecological environment of the Yangtze River Estuary has been significantly improved, and the frequency and number of various fish in the area near Jiuduansha have increased.

According to experts from the East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences, in order to restore the ecological environment of the South Trough Channel of the Yangtze River Estuary, Shanghai has continuously carried out breeding and stocking work since 2019. Previously, a total of 4,097 kilograms and 8.62 million rounds of ridge-tailed white shrimp, clams, sand silkworms, green clams and four-horned clams had been released. In addition to the release of the dark-striped oriental pufferfish, the project stocked a total of 5 categories of fish, shrimp, polychaete, shellfish and crabs, and 17 species such as Chinese sturgeon and rare protected animals of cochineal, with a total of 19.99 million tails and 113.6 tons. These aquatic organisms were originally the "indigenous people" of the Yangtze River Estuary, and can constitute a biological chain to improve the ecological environment of the Yangtze River Estuary.

Breeding and stocking staff are ready to release

For example, the dark-striped oriental pufferfish released this time is commonly known as the puffer fish, which was once one of the main species below the Nanjing section of the Yangtze River. In recent decades, with the deterioration of the ecological environment of the Yangtze River and the increase in fishing, the scale of fish such as the wild population of the dark eastern pufferfish has decreased and the resources have declined.

Therefore, through breeding and stocking, the East China Sea Institute supplements the basic requirements of economic aquatic organisms and bait in the Yangtze River estuary, improves the population structure of fishery resources in the waters, and can alleviate the impact of engineering construction on the ecological environment of related waters.

After 3 years of efforts, the relevant monitoring results show that at present, the frequency of various fish near the jiuduan sand at the mouth of the Yangtze River, including the dark-striped oriental pufferfish, has increased significantly, and the number has increased significantly.
