Find the most beautiful pharmacist around | Guo Rong: It is my mission to pass on warmth

Guo Rong

The smart black ponytail, the cute round-rimmed glasses, and the clean and neat between the hands and feet - this is the initial impression that Guo Rong gave.

Guo Rong, 34, is a resident pharmacist at the Lanzhou Chronic Disease Management Professional Pharmacy of Sinopharm Gansu Co., Ltd., responsible for in-store drug quality management, rational medication services for patients and assistance in drug distribution. Although the work is plain, due to Guo Rong's professional and heart-warming service, the ordinary work can also shine.

"Only by improving oneself can we shine"

After graduating from university in 2008, Guo Rong worked in the Pharmacy Department of the Anning Branch of the 940 Hospital of the Joint Logistics Support Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, undertaking drug dispensing and medication consultation for 8 years.

After successfully passing the practicing pharmacist exam in 2015, Guo Rong fell into confusion. Although her work experience in the pharmacy department has enabled her to accumulate solid professional drug knowledge and rich experience in pharmaceutical services, she always feels that her ability has not been exerted, and she has nowhere to release her "momentum".

"The role of pharmacists should be known to more patients!" Guo Rong secretly made up her mind. In 2017, she resolutely left the comfortable environment of the hospital and broke into the pharmaceutical retail industry.

After entering Sinopharm Gansu Co., Ltd., Guo Rong did not slack off from the work of a resident pharmacist because she had experience in pharmacy, but comprehensively analyzed her own shortcomings and learned the knowledge of drug quality and safety, safe drug consultation, drug price, GSP standards and medication guidance for related clinical diseases from scratch.

Guo Rong's store is a designated pharmacy for more than 20 aid projects. Guo Rong is not only the person in charge of drug quality in pharmacies, but also the designated pharmacist for aiding drugs. In addition to her daily work, she also has a comprehensive grasp of professional work such as preferential policies for aid drugs, reimbursement policies and proportions. The receipt, distribution, storage and monthly statements of the in-store assistance project are all done by her alone.

"The professionalism of special pharmacies drives me to keep improving in order to live up to the trust of patients." The special pharmacy's assistance in the distribution of drugs allows Guo Rong to deeply appreciate the patient's suffering and desire for health while doing a good job in the daily work of drug quality management and drug consulting services.

"Drug quality and safety are more important than the sky"

Guo Rong is both a resident pharmacist and a quality person in charge, and "drug quality and safety are more important than heaven" is a sentence she often hangs on her lips.

Guo Rong's pharmacy mainly deals in tumor drugs and tumor auxiliary drugs, which are expensive "life-saving drugs", storage requirements are extremely strict, most of them need to be stored in the light and refrigerated, and a little negligence will affect the quality of drugs.

In order to strictly control the quality, the company is uniformly equipped with a cold chain data monitoring system to monitor the temperature and humidity of the drug in real time. After arriving at the store, opening the system to check the temperature and humidity situation in the store and dealing with the temperature and humidity warning information in a timely manner are the "compulsory courses" for Guo Rong to work every day. Guo Rong's mobile phone is connected to the drug cold chain data monitoring system, whether it is going to work or rest, she pays attention to the temperature and humidity of the drug in real time, and the quality of the drug has become a part of her body.

One early morning in November 2019, Guo Rong, who was sleeping, was awakened by a sudden power outage alarm call. The power outage means that the in-store coolers are less than an hour old. Thinking that the quality of drugs worth tens of millions of yuan in the refrigerator in the store would be threatened, Guo Rong immediately dispelled her sleepiness, contacted her colleagues on duty, and rushed back to the store to start the generator, ensuring the normal operation of the refrigerator during the insulation period.

The colleagues in the store were relieved, but Guo Rong did not settle down, because the time and cycle of the power outage were unknown. The generator in the shop has only 8 hours of power generation time, and the quality and safety of the drug cannot be fully guaranteed. After much deliberation, Guo Rong decided to apply to the company's quality control department to pull most of the refrigerated drugs in the store back to the company's warehouse. At the same time, it also applied to the logistics department for a large incubator to store the drugs left in the store for normal sales. Sure enough, that time the power was not restored until the next morning.

It was Guo Rong's decisiveness that avoided a drug safety and quality accident. But this is just the tip of the iceberg of Guo Rong's daily work. She believes that practicing pharmacists are involved in drug storage, maintenance and many other aspects of their work, and only by giving temperature to their work can they truly be a good pharmacist.

"Bring warmth to everyone around you"

During the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, pharmacies have adopted a rotation system to avoid gathering of people. In order for patients to still receive aid drugs during the epidemic prevention and control period, and patients who consult drugs in the store can get reasonable medication guidance, Guo Rong took the initiative to ask Miao to be on duty. On a medicine day in May 2020, a tired Aunt Wang collected medicines for her sick sister. However, according to the requirements of the project, only the immediate family members can receive the aid medicine, and Aunt Wang, who is overwhelmed, is in a hurry.

Guo Rong saw the situation, pulled Aunt Wang to sit down, and patiently inquired about the situation. It turned out that Aunt Wang's sister, who had advanced liver cancer, was unable to get out of bed because of the pain of illness, and her family was isolated in Heilongjiang, with only her 6-year-old daughter by her side. In order to collect money for medical treatment, the family tried its best. The aid medicine received this time is the family's "life-sustaining grass".

After understanding the situation, Guo Rong actively communicated with the assistance project office to reflect the patient's difficulties. After repeated coordination and verification between the two sides, the project office added Aunt Wang to the list of drug collection. Aunt Wang, who got the medicine, held Guo Rong's hand and was reluctant to let go.

Another time, a lung cancer patient in Jiuquan City needed to use a monoclonal antibody injection for the third stage of treatment during the epidemic prevention and control period, but the patient was inconvenient to come to Lanzhou to buy drugs, and could not buy them locally, and the anxious family contacted Guo Rong. Guo Rong actively contacted the company's logistics department to distribute the urgently needed drugs to the local state-controlled pharmacy in Jiuquan through the company's logistics department, which not only ensured the quality of the drugs, but also helped the patients to continue to take drugs during the treatment period.

There are countless such examples. "Everything starts from the needs of patients, as long as I can serve patients, I am very satisfied!" Guo Rong explained her work "creed" in this way. The vast majority of her customers are cancer patients, and she often watches many families overwhelmed by high medical bills. "As long as my efforts can warm the patient, I can help a little!" Guo Rong said firmly.

For the drug assistance project, Guo Rong pays special attention to it, from the project policy and reimbursement plan to the communication skills and speaking style, Guo Rong has made sufficient efforts. Some cancer patients do not understand their own condition, and Guo Rong needs to bypass sensitive words in the communication process to avoid causing psychological trauma to patients.

Guo Rong's warmth is not only reflected in the safe medication service for patients, but also in the encouragement and care of colleagues. Which colleague needs help at work or enlightenment in life, Guo Rong will actively lend a helping hand, and her kindness warms everyone around her.

Guo Rong said that she is determined to use solid professional drug knowledge and rich experience in pharmaceutical services, with innovation, professionalism, focus, persistence, and constantly improve herself, wholeheartedly serve patients, and bring warmth to everyone around her.
