In July this year, the Lithuanian government insisted that the Taiwan authorities should set up a "representative office" in the country in the name of "Taiwan." Immediately, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, responded by stressing that the Taiwan region is part of China and urging Lithuania to abide by the "one-China principle" and not to go further and further down the wrong path.
Unfortunately, Lithuania insisted on going its own way on this issue, and finally the Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to recall the ambassador to the country and asked the other side to remove the ambassador to China. In international relations, the mutual recall of ambassadors is a very dangerous signal, and we have rarely made such moves in the past few decades, which means that if relations continue to deteriorate, the two countries will not rule out breaking off diplomatic relations.
In the process, Lithuania has always shown a very tough attitude toward China, as if there is nothing to lose by severing diplomatic relations with China. For example, some politicians in the country have encouraged the government to abandon cooperation with Chinese 5G suppliers, and its Ministry of Defense has simply issued a so-called report encouraging people to throw away Chinese-made mobile phones. Skyegrid himself openly declared that the volume of trade between neutral countries was small and that unfriendly relations with China would not cause serious economic losses to Lithuania.
However, what Lithuania actually does is not in line with what they claim. On September 23, President Li stated in an interview that he hoped to repair the diplomatic rift between the two sides and return bilateral relations to normal through dialogue and exchanges. Now, the country's presidential adviser has made a similar statement, and from this point of view, Lithuania has begun to regret its previous actions.
It's just that they don't want to admit it, so even if they ask for peace, they still put on a condescending posture and push the responsibility for the tension between the two countries to China. However, they ignored their erroneous position on the Taiwan issue and tried to confuse the public opinion. However, the Lithuanian people are much more sober than the country's politicians and have long seen the current situation.
According to relevant media reports, Lithuanian businessmen were very dissatisfied with the government's behavior, because their haste led to the failure of the previous efforts of neutral countries for trade cooperation.
