Agence France-Presse quoted the Greek Coast Guard as saying that on the 26th, a rubber boat where the four victims were staying sank, and they and 23 others tried to travel from Turkey to Greece.

Greece is reportedly one of the main passageways for illegal immigrants from Turkey to enter EU countries in fragile and crowded rubber boats. But the number of people has fallen sharply in recent years, and shipwrecks that cause casualties have become very rare.

A Coast Guard statement said the ship sank near the Greek island of Chios, where strong winds were blowing. "The ship was carrying a large number of passengers from the Turkish coast, which, combined with bad weather conditions, led to the separation of the hull." The Coast Guard said.

At present, the accident has caused 4 deaths, 22 people have been rescued and 1 person is missing. The nationalities of these immigrants were not immediately announced. The Greek Coast Guard said it had sent 10 search and rescue ships and two helicopters to assist in the rescue.
