Recently, a man in Hsinchu, Taiwan, slipped and fell unconscious in the bathroom, and fire and ambulance personnel rushed to the scene and pronounced him dead after only touching his pulse. However, when the funeral personnel came to carry the man's body, they found that he was still breathing. The man was then taken to the hospital by firefighters who arrived twice, but died 5 days later. This made the deceased's sister unable to accept it, and she cried bitterly in an interview with Taiwan media, accusing the local fire rescue personnel of "misjudging and neglecting" and missing the golden rescue time.

Comprehensive Zhongshi News Network, United News Network, Freedom Times, Minshi News and other Taiwan media reported on the 26th that the deceased in this incident was a 48-year-old boy surnamed Tong from Taichung City (hereinafter referred to as Tong Mou). At about 21:00 on the evening of October 21, the friend who usually kept in touch with Tong could not contact him, and the friend noticed that there was a difference and called the police for help.
When the police and the landlord entered Tong's rental house, they found Tong lying face down in the bathroom, so they called 119 to request assistance. After the fire and ambulance personnel arrived at the scene, they checked the pulse of Tong Mou, etc., and found that Tong Mou's carotid artery was not beating and his upper limbs were stiff, and it was judged that he was obviously dead.
At 9:28 p.m. on the same day, Tong's sister received a notice from the police that Tong had "died in the rental house" due to an accident. The police told her to go to the funeral home staff first, and she contacted the funeral home on the way from Taichung to Hsinchu. According to Tong's sister, when she arrived at the rental house at 11 o'clock that night, her younger brother Tong was still lying in the bathroom, and no one had moved for nearly 3 hours.
When the funeral home staff moved Tong's body, they found that Tong was not dead, and there was breathing and heartbeat. The funeral home staff quickly called Tong's sister and asked her to call an ambulance, and the police in the house saw the situation and immediately performed CPR on Tong. A funeral home worker said in an interview afterwards: "As soon as we flipped to the front, we found that he suddenly came up with a breath, which may be caused by the condition of lying on his stomach, so after we turned him over, there was no sense of oppression." ”
Hsinchu fire rescue personnel came to the scene for the second time and sent Tong to the nearest Dongyuan Hospital in Zhubei. After the doctor's diagnosis, Tong Mou had serious intracranial bleeding and was sent to the intensive care unit after the operation. After a few days of coma, Tong died at about 11:30 a.m. on the 26th.

After Tong's death, Tong's sister was interviewed by Taiwan media and accused the local fire rescue personnel of "misjudging and neglecting" in the rescue process. She talked about how their brother had just passed away in June, leaving her brother alone. But unexpectedly, my brother is now also suffering from an accident. Tong's sister recalled the situation when she arrived at the scene that day, and she cried even more bitterly.
"If the police came to help him turn over and give first aid, he died at his hands, I have nothing to say, but when I arrived, when I turned him over, you know, (at that time) he was alive, and his breathing was weak to strong, do you know what I mean?" Do you know my pain! ”
Tong's brother-in-law, who has been a volunteer firefighter for more than 20 years, is also dissatisfied, saying that it is only 15 minutes from the rental house to Zhubei Dongyuan Hospital, but this road "has walked for more than 3 hours". He believes that if the fire rescue personnel send Tong to the hospital for treatment at the first time, Tong may still have a chance to save his life. However, the fire rescue personnel let Tong lie in the bathroom for more than 3 hours, which was "difficult to accept" for the family. "Where is the 3 or 4 hours of justice?"
On the day of Tong's death, the Hsinchu County Fire Department responded to the matter. According to the director of the bureau, Sun Fuyou, when the report was received on the same day, a total of 3 firefighters were sent to the rescue. After the firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw that Tong's body appearance was black, and moved Tong's fingers to find that they were stiff, so they judged that Tong had died for a long time.
Sun Fuyou explained that the firefighters at the scene performed the task according to the operation process, but did not get the expected results, mainly because there was a gap between the procedures and the actual implementation. According to the statement issued by the Hsinchu County Fire Bureau on the 26th, ambulance personnel perform emergency treatment of emergency wounded and sick patients or a large number of injured and sick patients and rescue on the way to the hospital, but do not include the transportation of obvious dead remains.
As for whether the firefighter's misjudgment was the key to missing the rescue opportunity, Tong's sister decided to sue the court to seek justice.
